The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to make sure he doesn’t get a gun.

If speaking to an African-American on the topic of Gun Regulation I probably would cite Chicago statistics. And perhaps poverty and the fact people of Flint , Michigan dont have drinking water
Speaking to white people I would think they could better relate to shootings that might effect them the most.

Reading your writings for the past few years I find it hard to accept your concerns for the population of inner city Chicago

Hmm. I’ve posted about this, specifically, and though I don’t for a second think you’re saying this in good faith, I’ll reiterate: a huge proportion of the guns used in homicides in Chicago are legally straw-purchased in neighboring communities (many in Indiana) with far more lax purchasing requirements and laundered into Chicago. If you actually give a **** about this (spoiler alert: you don’t) you’d support measures to curtail such practices.

You want strict gun control. It wont stop school shootings. But we are going to vote our second amendment rights away for that illusion of safety.

Of course it will at the least curtail school shootings.
Do you consider strict background checks " voting away 2nd Ammendment rights" ?

Which is odd since that is all that is on the table

Wouldn't that mean the gun homicide rate in Indiana is even higher than in Chicago, then?

Is that what the data says?

It would be more apples to apples to compare Gary or Indianapolis to Chicago. I'm sure you understand that ~ 85 - 90% ~ of Indiana is rural
As you would find the same difference between Chicago and Illinois or Pennsylvania and Philadelphia

The majority of those guns used in homicides are stolen not straw-purchased

I sincerely doubt that’s the case, given that the nationwide number is about 30%, and an alarming proportion of those are only reported as “stolen” after they’ve been used to commit a crime.

In Tallahassee last night a domestic squabble killed two and wounded 5 as a shooter entered a hot yoga studio and did what shooters do.

Put that in your "gotta have data ---- but Chicago" pipe and smoke it

I read Julio3000's comment as suggesting that Chicago has a gun violence problem because there is easy access to guns in neighboring states.

That's a big leap in logic and doesn't hold up unless the data from those neighboring states shows a gun homicide rate of equal or more than Chicago.

I personally think Chicago's problem is a very high poverty rate

I have read both of your posts here and am scratching my head as to how you’re coming up with that reading of my post. Whatever the root causes of violent crime in some neighborhoods in Chicago—and poverty is a decent catch-all term, though far from all-encompassing—the fact remains that although it’s relatively harder to legally acquire a gun in Chicago, it’s relatively easier to do so in other places in close proximity (though, in truth, a good number of the guns come from places that are geographically further away but still have lower barriers to ownership). So stipulate that the cause of violence is X—you still can’t ignore the fact that X is aggravated by easy access to guns.
