He would definitely be a budget option

Could be useful if used judiciously.

Career OPS splits: .562 vs lefties, .754 vs righties

A player like that will take a king's ransom, if the trends of the last few years stay true.

I really hope we don't end up blowing the farm on a SP and/or a closer. It just seems like such a bad investment for us.
I don’t really understand why we are giving up on Minter. He was a rookie. We will have Viz and O’Day. Then, I would put Teheran in the pen and let him air it out for an inning or two. What if Gohara would work in the pen? Point is, I agree with you that we may only need to pick up a couple of guys to bolster the pen and spend the money elsewhere.

Kiley mentioned in his Wednesday chat that we made a “healthy” offer for Paxton. Also said the Mariners has offers that looked better based on prospect rankings than the one they accepted.

I'm not advocating a major bullpen addition, but I don't think those who are advocating for it are doing it because they're giving up on Viz or Minter. I think the idea is to get a proven lock down closer to push Vizcaino and Minter to 7th/8th inning roles. I still think we should build the bullpen from within, though. The pen will be fine as it is.

I think this basically confirms my notion that the Mariners got less value than they could have because they overvalued Sheffield.

I would like a second source to confirm what Kiley said.

Minter and Vizcaino were both inconsistent. Both have lock down stuff, but they seem to lose it in an instance. I think one more high leverage arm should be in the mix, but like Beanie is suggesting, it doesn't have to be a top-drawer guy.

As per the Mariners, they just demanded Justus.

I doubt you can count on anything Bowman or DOB so so your second may never come unless someone’s asked directly

The more I think about the catching situation, the more I like Ramos. With Flowers already under contract, coupled with the importance our front office and coaching staff have placed on framing tells me Flowers will play a couple times a week no matter who is acquired. if I'm correct in assuming this, Ramos is a relatively perfect match because he will need to be rested a couple times per week and we don't have the luxury of the DH to keep his bat in there.

Ramos has also become my favorite target. Grandal is #2 and Gomes #3... I'm operating under the assumption that Realmuto will not happen

I also think Ramos makes a lot of sense...of course we dont know what the market for his services look like...he also might have some preferences about who he plays for

We can get JT- but I am pretty sure the asking price is so obscene we (nor anyone else) is going to do it. Maybe by March Miami will lower price but it will be too late for any serious contender.
My guess is they would want Pache and Soroka/ Wright. Hell no.

I dunno... sounds like they are pretty hell bent on not trading him in division

Meter is the dumbest person in the game so I could see him taking a lesser package to keep him out of the east.

If the Marlins take less talent to get a guy out of the division he should be fired. You take the best package you can get regardless where it’s coming from.

For real. Even if the Braves traded for him, the Marlins competitive is 2 years away at minimum. The chances are very slim he'd still be a Brave by that time.

Sean Newcomb for Sonny Gray and Clint Frazier is enough or you believe the Braves need to throw another prospect?

I don't have any interest in bringing in Sonny Gray to be a 3/4...I'd rather just keep Newcomb

Agreed. Newk may not stick in the rotation, but he will make an impact out of the BP.

Gray’s price would have to be pretty low to make sense for the Braves.
