Wright was scratched from his Mississippi start tonight. Expect he's en route to Gwinnett and i also think he and Touki will be on the 40-man by this time tomorrow.

Reds announced Tucker was joining MLB club, had not decided where to place Wisler and Sims.

Williams said Reds considered Sims the centerpiece to the deal.

Wisler is Ohio native, so i'm guessing he is as happy as he is relieved to be out of the ATL revolving door.

Duvall is Louisville native, attended U of L, so he can't be too thrilled.

Consider: the Braves have acquired two 2016 all-stars over the last two days. Teheran was the only Brave named that year.

Wisler has shown enough to be considered a legit rotational worker.

I don't think he is. I'm just not sure how big of a deal(s) he's working on.

Yes, but this isn't the solution I had in mind....

Dramatically downgrading the defense to get Duvall's bat in the lineup? Why? It certainly upgrades the OF situation a bit, but it didn't really need a marginal upgrade.

The Wisler/Sims/Tucker trio obviously isn't anything to cry about, but it seems AA took the "we need a controllable player" narrative past the point of remaining rational.

Of all the holes on the roster, RHH corner OFer was pretty far down the list. Other moves have to be coming. It doesn't make sense to fix a problem that wasn't really a problem while ignoring the actual problems on the roster.

As I said with the Brach move, at least they are adding. That in and of itself is a big deal after the last few years of selling.

This certainly wasn't a trade that I expected or necessarily wanted, but I don't think its that bad considering the cost. Don't forget, Adam Duvall can play third if needed. He has some versatility. He also provides us with a much better bench bat than what we have had. So a pretty solid trade.

I still hope that we add one more bullpen arm to the mix. Some people are wanting a starter and that would be fine I guess, but its not my preference.

I’ll wait to see if there are any bigger moves coming.
At this point in time, the optics of simply being buyers at the deadline carries some non-trivial value for the Braves.

I agree that these moves are largely underwhelming though...safe, and probably smart, but underwhelming.

Damn. That was one that I kinda wanted. Will be interested to see what the Pirates gave up. Reportedly two prospects going back in the deal. My guess is Baz and Hearn.

Setting aside the needs we think the Braves have, and imagining RHH platoon OFer was a big need, would we be happy with this swap?

I think the answer is an unequivocal "yes", so the unexpectedness of the deal shouldn't detract from the fact that it was a solid acquisition.

Agreed. Duvall is a good defender in the outfield, has some pop, can play 3rd in an emergency, provides us with a much needed bench bat, and we traded basically filler to acquire him. I think this is a win, despite it being pretty weird.

I also agree, though, that this shouldn't be our last move. We need to make another one or this deal would be extra weird.

I think Archer is the final goal, honestly. Doesn’t mean it’ll happen, but...

Yeah its very possible. Hopefully the cost doesn't hurt too much if we do end up going that direction.

Topkin's "a young catcher and controllable power-hitting outfielder would be a good start to a package for Archer from the Rays’ vantage point" keeps ringing in my head.

How crazy would it be if Duvall plus a catching prospect lead the package for Archer?

    Umm guys....

It’s almost 11p here. You all are dangerously close to posting past the time clvderpclv has stated is acceptable posting hours. You perverts better get to bed before he unloads a Simpsonesque rant at you all.
