So, Rookie of the Year? It's basically between Acuna, Soto, and Anderson. Anderson has way more PA's, so his counting stats (and WAR) are higher, but he's not even in the neighborhood of Soto or Acuna offensively.

Dereck Rodriguez has also been very impressive.

ROY is another fairly meaningless thing, but the front runners in the NL have to be...

    Soto 2.5 WAR
    Bader 2.2 WAR
    Anderson 2.2 WAR

Soto and Bader are sitting at 306 and 262 PAs, while Anderson has 516 PAs. While Soto and Bader have been better per PA, there is value in proving capable of sustaining production over a full season of adjustments.

I'm going to guess the "ultra mature approach from a 19 year old phenom" narrative and .400+ OBP propels Soto to the ROY award. His 154 wRC+ is amazing, especially for a rookie.

Bader doesn't have the counting stats to get him serious consideration. There are still a lot of dinosaurs in the BBWAA.

I would think Soto is running away with it for the moment.

But Acuna probably having the better second half and has an opportunity to help carry his team into the playoffs. If you can get that narrative into the conversation, the better defense might actually start mattering in helping folks make the case.

Who cares. Acuña can send Soto some Braves playoff tickets as congrats on his trophy.

I wouldn't say that...bwar is probably about even after Ronald's game today.

Acuna might be on a first half ROY Bellinger like power run in the second half as the power is very real for him but Soto would have to keep slumping. If Soto ends up steadying around here and Acuna ends up with about a .900 OPS (with a lower BA/OBP), the story for Soto might still win out. Acuna was a young prodigal talent but he actually saw a ton of AA-AAA plate appearances. Soto only saw 35 AA plate appearances. What he is doing with a bat in his hands is just pure insanity. Plate discipline wise, he's outshining multiple veterans.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

What I think is nuts is that Acuna has a non-zero chance of leading the team in HRs, despite not being called up until May and then missing almost all of June. He's got some crazy power. With 16 HRs, he's only 2 behind Freddie and 5 behind Ozzie

    I wasn't crazy by predicting 30-30.

He may get 30 HRs even after missing a month and being called up late, anyway.

    Haha.

    What a stud.

His prorated HR stats will be over 40 per 162 games after today. Fun stuff.

But the steal stats won't be around 30 and I don't think it'll ever be. He might find himself wandering down to the 4 hole after the season where Snitker prefers the veteran that does all the little things right to get runs in staying in the 4 hole (this year). Keep him somewhere 1-3 and he has a shot. 4th and no.

    30+/20-25 next season.

The youngest player to ever homer four games in a row and only the fourth player to hit a leadoff homer in both games of a doubleheader. Yeah, Ronald is at least getting part of that ROY trophy. He has staked his claim to history as the engine driving a team with a legit shot at the playoffs not some loser gNat that his team is a flustercluck and buried!

if this dude finishes the season healthy and the braves keep winning, he won't just win the award, but he'll get all the votes.

There’s some serious underrating on this board what Soto is doing.

Acuna would probably need to get to 30 homeruns and finish with a 140wRC just to have a chance to catch Soto.
