I'd like to see Mac brought back. I may be the only one on this board that fears the prospect of Gattis as our everyday catcher.

I'd like to see BJ dumped and Uggs given another half season. If no rebound cut him in July.

I don't feel positive about this upcoming season. I don't think we will have a bad team, but I don't think we will win the division either, but we have a couple months to talk about that.

For all we know Gattis could hit .220 next year and really, really struggle.

He could, or he could he hit .270ish and hit 30 bombs, and emerge as a good hitter.

    Time will tell.

Gattis will k a ton. We would be best to sell high on him. It's not that I don't like him, it's just we have have such back luck lately projecting hitters lately. Frenchy, Schafer, and even to some extent Heyward.

I can agree with some of your premise. Long felt that he may well be our most valuable trade chip but we currently dont have anyone to replace McCann other than Gattis. Please dont say Bethancourt.

So, Im too lazy to look up his stats but what would it do to the team to say sign Salty for 4/36M as rumored by MLBTR, relegate him simply as a LH bat rather than SH, paired with Laird this year and Bethancourt in 2015.

Now, what do we do with Gattis? LF/Bench/parttimeC or trade? If traded, what would you REALISTICALLY expect in return. Profar or Castellanos wouldnt be too much IMO. The loser in the McCann sweepstakes should be close to panic perhaps?

I saw some real adjustments by Gattis in the NLDS vs some very good pitching. I have no doubt he can become a low average (.240ish), high power hitter, which is just fine out of the catcher position. I don't want to see him hitting 4th all year, but if he sits in the 6/7 hole the offense will be just fine.

It would be nice if Wren could acquire a guy to play 2B that can hit in the top half of the lineup to push Gattis down a spot. Or for BJ to figure it out so he can hit above Gattis.

    1. Find a trade partner for Uggla who will take on $8MM-$10MM of his remaining contract.

    2. Sign/trade for one more solid bullpen arm.

Well the off-season is pretty much over, although there could be one or two more moves.

Was the off-season a success or failure in light of the expectations laid out in this thread and elsewhere?

Offseason has been an success IMO. Didn't panic because we lost to a team that had a ridiculously hot player and stayed the course. THe only hole we have options for. Plus we signed the face of the franchise to a long term deal which I think gives us a better shot of keeping Heyward.

    Job well done Frank!

Wish we could have gotten a veteran starting pitcher, but perhaps we were waiting on Freeman/Heyward decisions.

    Other than that I'm pleased.

We did get Gavin Floyd. A strong addition to the staff if healthy.

I think Wren would have dumped Uggla if another team was willing to take on a third of his remaining salary. Apparently no takers.

True, but we aren't looking for him to anchor our staff. Will be interesting to see which of our current group of youngsters will step up and be that guy.

I was hoping we could sign one of our core hitters to an extension, mission complete.

I was also hoping to keep EOF but not the end of the world given how well the Braves develop bullpen arms.

Wouldnt say successful per say, but wouldnt say a failure even.

For a team like the Braves, the anchor to the staff has to come from the farm system. The cost of signing or trading for that type of player is prohibitive. I think all five of the guys slated for our rotation have the potential to be #1.

Yeah, I don't see the need to worry about the starting rotation. IMO, that is hte teams strength by a long shot.

I expect it to take a step UP from last year. We have young guys who are still developing. I think Floyd/Wood/Beachy will be better than Maholm and Hudson, and if any one gets hurt, having a guy like Hale ready to go is nice. While he's not a stud, he's better than serviceable. He'd be on a lot of teams staffs this year from get-go.

There's only like 8-10 guys in baseball who are true #1's.

Some are close but not there yet.

That said, not worried with the rotation.

I'd say it was a closer off season to poor than good. Disappointed that we still have two of the worst players in baseball more than likely starting when the season begins. I don't like all the question marks regarding our lineup again. Bullpen could have used an addition or two, but I guess Venters returning is like adding another player.

    BJ was never going anywhere.

Uggla, yes but he has a short leash, maybe a month then he's benched if he keeps sucking (likely)

    One can wish.

Just looking at the players we lost compared to the ones we brought in and it's a clear decline.
