    1993 Comeback Against the Reds

Stumbled across video on YouTube. It's our ninth inning comeback against the Reds in 1993. Started the inning down 6-2. The whole thing is capped off by a Ron Gant, walk-off three-run home run off Rob Dibble.

    Things to enjoy:

    1. Chipper looking awful and making the only out of the inning in his second career AB.
    2. Klesko hitting a massive home run and garnishing it with an absolutely hilarious bat flip and reaction shot.
    3. Chris Berman calling a game like a normal human broadcaster

    1. Man, Chipper had a lot more crouch and a serious bat waggle going on.
    2. Ryan dropped the bat, from overhead and essentially perpendicular to the ground, ON the catcher. That's got to be one of the best—and when I say best I mean worst—bat flips ever. Really epic and the quintessence of Klesko.

I wish Ron Gant had never bought a dirt bike.

    Thanks, that was goosebumps worthy!

It occurs to me that we sometimes forget how good Ron Gant was...

Can you imagine how McCann would react to having someone drop a bat on him after hitting a home run?

He never was the same after that! I remember coming out of that season wondering how many MVP's he'd win.

    1. What a dominating team -- 93-53 at that point. We haven't seen a Braves team with that kind of record in years.
    2. Cincinnati had sweet road uniforms then -- I wish they would bring those back.
    3. Davey Johnson would continue to get owned by Atlanta throughout the rest of his career.

Justin Upton actually reminds me a lot of Ron Gant.

If this is the game I remember it started out rijo (who was almost as good as Maddux was in 93) vs mercker. I'm pretty sure lopez played some roll in that rally also. 93 was also the last year that steve avery was any good

The braves trailed the giants by 10 games at the ASB. McGriff trade, the ted catches fire. And the rest is history

I don't see it. Grant was faster and more athletic, IMO.

Btw, Klesko continues to be one of the most underrated players in history. If people saw those numbers today, he'd be massive fan favorite. But back in the day some braves fans wanted him gone and we made that ummmmmm trade

What was really amazing in that clip was that not one batter fiddled with their batting gloves, they got back in the batter's box right away and there was little or no spitting. How times have changed!

I think Upton is a more polished hitter as well. Gant was a dead pull hitter. Upton is a pull hitter, but he can go with the pitch to some extent. Gant simply could not do that at all.

No he wasn't. At least not before Justin came here and gained a little weight.

I've got this game on tape.... This was one of those years where we let a lesser team knock us out in the playoffs. We were loaded

Good times. Javy Lopez threw out Reggie Sanders trying to steal early in the game. This was a transition period from Bream, Pendleton, Gant, Olsen to McGriff, Chipper, Klesko, Lopez.

He drove in more runs over those 4 games than the current team usually scores total in 4 games!
