This series is turning into an old Perry Mason episode: The Case of the Bumbling Bullpens.

I hope today we get the Dr. Jeckyll of Julio Teheran and not Mr. Hyde.

Centerfield is in some ways easier than the corner outfield positions in that a player (at least I could, as bad as I was) gets a more accurate read of the ball off the bat. The question as to how effective someone can be out there depends on their speed and, to a lesser extent, their arm. I think Culberson could back up out there for a day or two. Bourjos is just up the road if they would need a longer term replacement. Dustin Peterson has played a few games in centerfield in the minors as well, but I don't think he'd be as good out there as Culberson.

The Council of Elders is the main reason they are in first. We have veteran leadership on this team that is unparalleled since the Laird Era.

I've held back on it some, but in May outside of the first Mets series, I think we're going through the reality of it (whether it's sustained or not). If you're actually going to be a good team, not every game is going to be up roses. You're going to have to battle and grind. And that's what the young players are learning on this team. Learning how to battle and grind through it.

It may not have been pretty, but as it turns out, September last year for the young players was very important. This is, too regardless of where it goes this season. Hopefully a split can be gritted out vs the Nationals, because the schedule really lightens up for a while after them.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

I agree. The Braves are not playing on all cylinders right now, but what they are doing is snatching victory from defeat. Most teams would be 3-9 during this stretch, but this team managed to turn 3 of those losses into wins. It's pretty amazing, and a sign of a team that has the will to win.

Yeah, we need a third baseman real badly.
It would be nice to have a third baseman so that we could be playing Camargo in LF right now.

I like Johan and hate our depth. We need much better injury insurance than Charlie Culbertson.

Eh, who really has a great backup option for all positions? Camargos defense at third is a big part of his value.

Quick calc. 109 mph is approximately 159.867 ft/sec. They say about 362 ft, which seems pretty damn generous seeing it’s only 330 down the line in right, so just a hair over 2 seconds to get out.

The improved walk-rate has been huge.

This is why people harp on those secondary skills: you still need to have hit-tool ability; but if you can take a walk and drive the ball, it can keep you productive even when you’re experiencing (as Camargo has) horse-dung luck on the balls you put in play.

Is the 363 number what statcast said? If so that's because that's the estimated distance where it would land with no wall/seats/etc in the way and not physically where it hit.

362 was Statcast, angle of elevation was 20 also, so would have taken a tad more time to get out. So guesstimate not much more than 2.3 seconds to travel that far. I have been imbibing tho.

I agree but I think the shi*ty veteran pitching has made these young guys have to “grind”.
