Solid start for Tarnok. 7 IP, 7 H, 7 K, 0 BB, 2 ER. 8/4 GO/AO. 100 P, 71 S. It would be great if Tarnok could finish the season strong after an iffy first half.

Best thing about all of that? Finally stretching him out. Looks like they're taking the kid gloves off a bit. Not sure he needed to be in A+ ball if they intended for him to pitch less than 100 innings this season.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

I think I've asked before because I haven't found anything online, but does anyone have any type of information on Kurt Hoekstra's stuff as a pitcher? He's really had a solid first season as a full-time pitcher.

clvclv, I agree on your Tarnok assessment. I trust the minor league field staff knows what it is doing, but I've never quite understood the somewhat contradictory strategy of rushing a guy in terms of competitive level and leaving the gloves on at the same time. They jumped him to Rome in 2018 and I get that they wanted him in full season ball after the GCL so he'd be pitching competitively at the start of the season, but they could have put him in Danville in the second half of the 2018 season and started stretching him out more there. But hey, they see the guys every day and I don't.

Hey 50. I made note of him during one of the games I saw him. He's definitely got a chance is what I think I said. Anyway, from what I saw, he's got a power enough arm. Sat at about 92-93 (seemed a few were mid-90's) and that's guessing, but what I did take note of what his wipe out slider looked like. He made more than a few batters look really bad. I think his speed variance is a work in progress, but that's a given as he's only been pitching for two years now I think. If he has both an above average FB and Slider, he'll definitely be of use in the pen. I liked what I saw.

Thanks Deester. I must have missed your entry. Hoekstra's older, but I never looked up his college stats to see if he pitched at Western Michigan. He's just come out of the blue and the most surprising thing--at least to me--is his control. Outside of Florida, his walk rate has been really solid.

EDIT: Just did a check at The Baseball Cube and Hoekstra pitched in a grand total of 7 games over 3 seasons at Western Michigan.

We all get the fact that short season ball numbers mean next to nothing, but Ball has no business being in Danville. It's not like they've got anything in Benson and Venter - send him to Rome for the month and find some things you want to have him work on over the winter.
