Been to Sedona. Any other towns I should visit?

I lived in Cottonwood, which is fifteen miles west of Sedona, on the other side of the valley, at the foot of Mingus Mountain. The Cottonwood–Clarkdale–Jerome amalgamation has some good gems, and is less busy / bourgeois California-tourist resorty than Sedona (but the topography of Sedona is unmatched).

Prescott’s a cool town, especially the outskirts (pronunciation shibboleth: it’s prés-cut not press-cót); I ****ing love Flagstaff (which twins with Missoula in some weird ways); Crown King is an awesome old mining outpost south of Prescott, nestled in the Bradshaw mountains, but well worth the two-hour drive on dirt roads; Pine/Strawberry, up on the Mogollon Rim, is also really nice for a day-trip into the ponderosa forests. If you’re headed in the latter direction, Petrified National Forest is pretty amazing (though the closest town, Holbrook, decidedly isn’t).

It’s the other end of the state, but Bisbee—in the south-eastern highlands—is really tremendous as well.

I think the more apt comparison here may be 2013 7th-round draft pick Ian Stiffler (no relation to the American Pie Stiffler). Stiffler was a Pennsylvania kid that wasn't on any of the major publications' rankings. He had a commitment to Virginia Commonwealth, where his brother was the Head Coach. The Braves went $46,000 over slot to sign him. He never found his control and was out of the system after the 2015 season. I don't know if injuries contributed to his issues. I guess I see Paolini in the same vein (with hopefully different results) because of the paucity of interest in him by most organizations.

Interesting info about major leaguers who went to Elon, including the Braves own Joe Winklesas. The article about Joe's experiences with life and the Braves is worth a read.

Awesome in 2018, but a bit down from that in 2019.

A lot of cool stuff around Page (Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell, Kanab; and a little bit farther afield: Bryce, Zion, Monument Valley, Mexican Hat / Valley of the Gods). But I basically count that area as southern Utah.

Elon was the 4th loss for the 2000 South Carolina team that was the #1 national seed.

Was projected in the fifth or sixth round—so finally a scoop for the Braves, based on the pundit charts.

Also Alma Mater of former Green Bay Packer Tight End Rich McGeorge and a common crossword puzzle clue for four-letter North Carolina college.

Meanwhile, Louisville OF Todd Lott would’ve been a good name to unload some consonants in scrabble.

Cody Milligan has to be the outstanding baseball name in this year's entire draft.

I like it. There's clearly some talent there. He's got the ideal build for a pitcher. He's a long shot to become anything (everyone picked at this point is a long shot) but this is exactly what we need to be stockpiling in our organization considering our lack of international players.

Was bad at OK St, then hit .426 for Cowley while playing mostly C, and some OF; Braves draft him as a 2B (at least according to mlb.com). The 37 bb to 15 k, in 155 ABs, is interesting, as is the 24/24 in sb attempts.

Best left on board (MLB.com ratings) and their ironclad commitments/signings:

29 Maurice Hampton (Memphis University School) LSU.
    33. Jack Leiter (Delbarton NJ School) Vanderbilt
    34. Hunter Barco (Bolles School, Jacksonville) Florida
    37. Lee Brooks (San Luis Obispo Calif. HS) Cal Poly
    53. Bryce Osmond (Jenks Okla. HS) Oklahoma State
    66. Jerrion Ealy (Jackson Miss. Prep School) Ole Miss.
    71. Spencer Jones (La Costa Canyon Calif. HS) Vanderbilt
    80. Will Rigney (Midway Texas HS) Baylor
    86. Riley Cornelio (Pine Creek Col. HS) TCU
    93. Brett Thomas (Riverwood Charter) South Carolina

Clearly, the SEC is still able to outbid MLB teams.

Hampton and Ealy are planning on football/baseball double dip.
