Stupid if true. Nothing against Elder and the 40-man roster this off-season looks to be manageable, but I just think moves like this could hamstring the team if and when a 40-man roster move may need to be made. I felt the same way when they rushed Bryse Wilson up and put him on the 40-man at least two years before that decision needed to be made.

Maybe not mathematically, but Mets and Padres appear to be done. Mets are 7 back in division and 8.5 in WC. Padres are 21.5 back in division and 5 in WC. Remember their great offseason?
The Padres are probably giving up. Since the Cardinals keep winning their playoff percentage is under 1%.
Speaking of Padres I have no idea what starters they will send at us this weekend. They moved Darvish up to pitch Thursday. We will definitely see Musgrove on Sunday. But they released Arietta who was supposed to start Friday, and it's unclear who they even have left.
If anyone was wondering what our old friend Ryan Flaherty is up to. Didn't even know this position existed.
Clubhouse frustration boiled over publicly on Saturday, when Tatís engaged in respective shouting matches in the dugout with bench coach Bobby Dickerson and Machado. Tingler had previously been ejected from the game, and development coach Ryan Flaherty intervened to break up the argument.
The hyperkinesis exhibited in the Frazier trade just spells it all out to me. Nothing against Frazier, but where did he fit in that line-up? To get him into games, they had to move Tatis to the OF (which in and of itself isn't a terrible idea) and move Cronenworth to SS (which isn't a particularly good idea). I suppose they could have platooned Frazier with Pham. It all just seemed like a superfluous move when they did it, but it was hailed in the baseball press because of the reasonable acquisition cost and Frazier's gaudy (but likely unsustainable) batting average.
Preller has made a bunch of moves that look good on paper (he hasn't surrendered much in terms of prospect wealth) that haven't worked out. Some have, but a lot of his glitzy moves have turned out to be meh.
