Regarding Yelich, i think Braves offered maybe something like Gohara, Pache, Anderson and a lesser player or two. Or maybe Ender instead of Pache.

If they turned down Pache, the joke could very well be on them. They wanted Acuna though and it may not have progressed passed that at all. Ownership needed someone’s top guy to get the fan base back on board.

That said. I don’t know if I could stand a kapler type in charge. What an incompetent douche.

I think coaching staffs should be speacialized. Kind of like the game. Snit can be over everything and manage personalities and recomend days off and things. Pitching coach should be 100% invested in the pitchers and should be in charge of pitching changes and all mound visits. Hitting coach should be all invested in offense and should be in charge of line up construction and pinch hitters when asked to supply one. Have assistants for each to help with data research. Your bench coach or defensive coach is your positioning coach. Almost like football where the coordinators run that part of the team.

I want Girardi if we make a manager change, but i'm guessing Snit gets a 1-yr extension.

I’m not a huge Snit fan, but I don’t see anyway he’s not managing next year (and likely signed for the next two years). The players love him, he’s said all the right things, he’s wildly exceeded expectations, and he’s expressed a willingness to adapt to new concepts and information.

We should focus our complaint cathexis on Hernandez; with the walk numbers for Braves pitchers, he could much more easily and reasonably be chopped on AA’s block.
"For all his tattooings he was on the whole a clean, comely looking cannibal."

They probably made the same mistake that Coppolella made in that you don't start the re-build until you are finished with the tear-down. Brinson was deemed big league ready and, in all honesty, his ceiling was judged to be fairly high. But if they could have gotten a better player who was a year or two away at the time, it may have been the better course. I'm not suggesting Brinson will end up being a total bust, but he's had an ugly year.

    Interesting take on Harper.

His 34 HRs this season are just 9 more than runs he has allowed due to poor defense in either RF or CF. Could be a determining factor in how many clubs would approach signing him a a FA.

    From MLBTR

In a piece for the Sports Info Solutions blog, Mark Simon digs deep to try and find an explanation for Bryce Harper’s poor defensive ratings; he’s cost the Nationals 25 runs with his performance in the field, per Defensive Runs Saved. Simon notes that Harper ranks second-worst among all MLB position players in that metric, having played well below average both in right and center field. Simon objectively examines the categories in which the All-Star slugger has performed below his historical norms, such as range rating, deterrent value from his throwing arm, and the routes he’s taken to fly balls.

He had a 6 DRS in LF in the past, so whoever signs him should just stick him in LF. He obviously sucks in RF and CF.

5-6 years ago when he was posting positive/average results in center and rf too.

This season he has been horrible on defense regardless of what metric you look at. DRS, UZR, or OAA.

What teams have to determine is if this just an fluke down year and he returns to a solid defensive OFer or if he's on his way to being the next Matt Kemp. I don't want to pay 300+ million to find out.

I expect him to resign with the Nats too. My guess is they will sign him to a crazy backloaded contract that will pay him well into his 50’s

I'm not really sure where he goes, but i could see them backload his deal if he stays.

LF for the Angels. Then he and Trout can have a daily contest to determine who is better.

Seriously, I'm anxiously awaiting to see how the market unfolds for Harper. I knew he wasn't a CF, but I didn't know his defense had slid as far as it had.

I'm curious about his defense going forward. It's been awful this year but it could just be a flukish down year. I doubt he gets the contract he wants but it only takes 1 dumb team.
