Actually nice that it's a one year deal from our perspective since he'll be available again next winter when we actually HAVE plenty of money.

Need to set up a scoreboard that keeps track of how much money Borass has cost his clients over the years to go along with how much he's made them - in this case, he cost Greg $38 million.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Boras is going to have to adjust to how teams are going after veteran players or this will become the norm for the non elite FA's.

Should have taken the Rockies offer for sure. Not sure I'd blame Boras for his not accepting though Boras might have given him some bad advice.

But, he'll get paid second most money this year of any receivers that signed so I guess it could have been worse. Hope he stays healthy.

I wonder if going forward we are going to see more players accepting qualifying offers or if teams shy away from offering them because the player might accept it.

I’d say a little of the latter, but much more of the former.

The QO really does seem to have depressed or inhibited the markets of FAs outside the top-most echelon. Meanwhile, I just think the draft compensation incentive is too high, relative to the extremely short-term consequence of the QO, to make teams very wary of throwing out a QO. Indeed, it often represents a good value to all but the most cash-strapped teams—which is probably why it’ll be significantly changed or abridged in the subsequent CBA.

Not really an off season move anymore, but the Rox just extended Blackmon to the following terms:

    2019 (32): $21M
    2020 (33): $21M
    2021 (34): $21M
    2022 (35): $21M player option
2023 (36): $10M player option, increases by $5M for 400 PAs, and $1M-$2M more based on MVP finishes

So the Rox are on the hook for 5/94 - 5/99 (assuming Blackmon isn't an MVP contender).

That represents the absolute floor for a Donaldson contract.

That’s a decent deal for the Rockies. The extreme home/road splits matter the least to them.

It does raise the question of Arenadi though. That number should be well north of 21 million.

Arenado is gonna want 30 a year. I still say a 5/125 gets Donaldson.

I'm thinking 4/140 or 1/150 (assuming a healthy 2018 where he produces the expected 5+ fWAR), but with how the value of older FA contracts has plummeted, I could see 5/125 being reasonable.

He missed a little time last year but went nuts when he came back. If he misses some time this year it may drop his price a little more.

Ohtani playing well in his first few games. Hit a 2 run home run off of Kluber today.

He's a beast. As the Mariners GM said. I've seen players who can throw 100 MPH and those that can hit the ball 500 feet. But not a player that can do both.

Regarding Donaldson, given how much money we have in future years, i'd offer 4 years with a higher AAS for Donaldson, would put him through his age 36 year.

I would have liked Blackmon but he's 32, and not a great defender and of course the Coors effect.

It'll be pretty cool if he's able to become a TOR starter as well as a solid to really good DH. If that happens I'll be very happy we don't have to play them very often.

I am not sure about Donaldson, I have read some concerns about his shoulder going forward.

I agree. All things considered, I'd rather do 4/120 than 5/125.

I’d rather pay a 30+ year old corner infielder a big contract than any other position.

I think he would take the 1/150

Watching the Yankees/Orioles on the MLB network and was surprised to see Jace Peterson in LF for the Yankees.
