Why do people think Harper and Machado will only be signing 10 year deals?

Those contracts will almost certainly contain guaranteed money into their late 30s, with one or more opt-out clauses built in so they can test the FA market again before they are 30.

Contracts in the 12/450+ range are in play here. Anyone who thinks the Braves will even be sniffing these players is completely delusional.

Those numbers are ludicrous. They will probably get that but the team that signs anybody to 12/ 400+ will almost instantly regret it. Only maybe 5 franchises that can even entertain that

Braves wont be in on Harper/Machado but there's still alot of good players projected to be FA's that year and even this upcoming winter.

This is bizarre. Max Scherzer is coming out of this game. Came out to throw warmup pitches, then walked off and said "I can't go."

His 5.6 bWAR would put him #2 in baseball behind Altuve. With his defense if he could ever become an above average hitter he would be one of the best players in baseball. He's having that season plus some this year at age 27 (most common break out year age wise). Would not surprise me to see him sustain this level of offense for the rest of his contract. Just a horrible trade.

I would put money against the proposition that Simmons finishes 2018 with a wRC+ of 120 or above.

Maybe not. But I see him being an above average hitter for the next few years.

Mike Trout and Bryce Harper both have been worth 4.9 fWAR this season.

Trout has played in 67 games and is still as "good." lol

I had the pleasure of watching Andrelton in person for two games at Yankee Stadium earlier this summer. He's been in great form.

I just don't have faith that Simmons would have ever been this successful at hitting in Atlanta. I still think we have a player development problem at the MLB level.
