Lucroy is a free agent after this year, coming off down year, not sure how demanding Brewers can be. He is not a long term option unless he is re-signed of course.

Edit: he has a 2017 option

Can't see a trade for Lucroy at this point. CJ & Flowers are in the house now.

We can still cut McKrappy or Cunniff if we want to open a spot.. no need to release CB just because. He is more valuable than those other two.

I wouldn't be surprised if we do Teheran for Soler. It hurts our 2016 rotation, but immediately helps the lineup.

Once Mallex is up: (we have so many lefties lol)
    Smith RF
    Inciarte CF
    Freeman 1B
    Soler LF
    Olivera 3B
    AJ/Flowers C
    Aybar SS
    Peterson 2B

No way Mallex plays right field in the Majors. He doesn't have the arm.

I like keeping Markakis around. If you have a lot of young players you want to have a respected veteran that young players can learn from. I know that's difficult to quantify, but I think that's important with all of the upheaval.

We don't need his money, for now at least, and I doubt he brings in a return without eating most of that money. I just don't think that's worth it.

I'd actually consider trading Mallex. Package him with CB and a pitcher to get a bigger return like maybe Baez.

Teheran, on the other hand, makes plenty of sense to trade. However, I would only do it if we get a close to big league ready bat. Javier Baez makes sense, if he can stick at 3B/2B.

I think the Yankees make sense. Jorge Mateo and Refsnyder. Houston could offer Kyle Tucker and AJ Reed (maybe we include Vizcaino to sweeten that pot).

Anyways, I have seen too many 25 year old pitchers lose their value overnight to risk wasting them on a losing season.

The Cubs' window is now. I don't see them trading one of their better trade chips for uncertainties. They want to keep those assets so they can fill holes on their big league roster.

They have holes? Lol. Mallex could play Cf for them as they need one. They've had talks with Heyward to so who knows. But their infield is full and I'm sure Baez is available.

They could use another starting pitcher. That's why they have been connected to Shelby and Teheran all offseason. I think they would prefer to use Baez to trade for a Cobb, Teheran, etc. type rather than wasting their best disposable asset for two lesser prospects, of which one has limited value (Bethancourt).

And worst case scenario for them is they stick Baez in AAA to start the year and have him try out CF. Even if that fails, then they have a useful trade chip for the middle of the season to add pieces for the stretch run.

Yeah, the Cubs have no use for Bethancourt and little use for Mallex. Neither of them moves the meter much at all. Thinking we can pull Baez for that from a smart FO just because we fleeced the D-Backs is a little much.

If we want Baez, we have to give them Teheran. Period.

Good call Matt. I had mistakenly figured Blair would need to be rostered, but he does not. We just need to open up 1 spot before Friday's draft.

Yea I'm curious what this means for the future of Mallex. Inciarte is a really nice player and a hell of a defensive CF. But I also don't want to cast Mallex aside....prototypical leadoff hitters are hard to find.

Trade Markakis for Jordan Walden. Sign Jason Heyward. Play chess with yourself.

I think you can go with mallex in cf and inciarte in rf. But you have to figure out Olivera and markakis. That's why I think Olivera to 2b. Just don't see us. Owing markakis.

If you play mallex and inciarte then u need some power from other spots

Keep Mallex and put him in left or right. Royals just won the WS primarily on the backs of amazing defense.
