Sierra is 25, so not subject to bonus pool.

Dodgers seem to have him in agreement, so moot point now. I'm still curious to see if the Braves will pursue Cuban 2B Jose Fernandez. Also not subject to bonus pool and should be cleared to sign this Spring.

Don't really have much choice. By season's end we'll know what we have one way or another. I just hope the brass isn't too proud to admit a mistake if he fails. We don't need another Uggla/Upton situation.

We don't have near that much invested in him. He will be given this year and next to prove something. If he fails, he will be traded or DFA by 2018.

His contract will be very easy to trade if he has success. I wonder if they consider moving him next off season if he has a .260 avg/.300 OBP and about 15 homers. But then that production would be worth 5 million a year.. Just not a LF type production... That would be a great 2B production for 5 million though.

The plus side is that he is nowhere as expensive as either of those guys.

We don't have as much cash invested. We do have Wood and Peraza invested in him. That's a considerable amount and I think that will grant him a much longer leash than if he was a 30 year old we signed off the street.

If he hits .260 with a .300 OBP and 15 HRs, he's gotta be able to play third. If he can only play left then he's a bust. If he can play third and hit like that, he'll be mediocre.

My personal guess is that he'll hit about .240, have an OBP around .280 and hit 8 HRs.

that is why I asked my question... with my numbers.. he is no good in our outfield, unless we have power else where. If he played 3rd or even second, then he is a very nice trade piece. If he hits your numbers, we will have to cut him after the 2017 season. I agree, our trade investment was high with him.. that is why he will get two full years to prove himself..

Olivera I hope doesn't block us from getting somebody else. .260 10 homers is what I predict with average defense. He'll battle injuries to all year running around in the outfield. I hope he builds some trade value and we can move him at some point.

The hyperbole surrounding Olivera is silly.

He may be awful. He may be good. He may be a lot of things. I just don't understand how any of you could draw any reasonable conclusion based off 80 at bats in September (coming off injury).

Stick him at 3B and let him sink or swim.

I'm less chagrined about the Wood/Peraza angle. The Dodgers have already traded Peraza and the way they are looking for starting pitching, it makes me wonder if they see Wood as a long-term option in their rotation. It doesn't mean those guys are crap, but we may be overestimating their value a bit.

PS--At what we're paying Olivera, I don't see him blocking us from a reasonable acquisition.

Rockies sign Parra to a very reasonable deal. Great defense and a solid hitter. On the good side of 30 as well. Amazing the type of players the Braves hate. Honestly the only outfielder I can name on the Braves is Markakis.

Especially when he hit better even in that span than people are predicting.

Markakis is probably better than Parra, and Inciarte certainly is.

You'd rather have Markakis for the next three at $11M/per, or Parra at $8.5? Just so we're clear.

why would anyone think we would sign Parra. right now, we have a very crowded OF.. hopefully that fixes itself next year.. but this year... sit back and enjoy the ride.

****, I don't want Parra, I'm just not certain why we want Markakis, either.
