Doumit pretty much replaces what Gattis was for us last year.
And Hale, Martin, Northcraft, Cabrera among others have passed him.
Good trade for both teams. Hopefully Gilmartin can crack the Twins rotation sometime soon. Doumit has power and can play multiple spots on the field. Best at catching, but is an upgrade in left field over Gattis too.
I don't see this as a pre cursor to a big deal either, but that's fine. Good trade and I like it for both teams.

FWIW, Doumit has apparently said he no longer wants to catch. Good for us if so because he is terrible at it. I am okay with him as a bench bat we give an occasional start in left field, assuming he hits enough. I just don't want him catching or starting games in right field.
I'm OK with this, and I see it as your classic "helps both teams" move. Gilmartin provided some depth for us, and that has value considering the youth and injury questions associated with our rotation, but only so much. Doumit had been a really solid hitter for three straight years before last season and for five of six before that as well. He provides some insurance at catcher, some depth in the outfield and a solid enough bench bat.
The Twins don't really have a need for Doumit, and he is getting up there in years. Meanwhile, their pitching staff has been execrable for a while, and it makes sense for them to take a shot on a young-ish lefty developing into a reasonable fourth starter.
He will be fine coming off the bench.
The org. clearly felt it was time to move on from Gilmartin. They've watched him and know him far better than you do. We won't miss him. He will be lucky to be a long-reliever for more than a season in the MLB. Even if it all pans out for him, he's a #5.
Chavez signs with the DBacks, per MLBTR.
In the end, Heyman reports (via Twitter) that he preferred to stay close to his Phoenix home.
From MLBTR.
Frank's fault though.

Gilmartin, 23, entered the season ranked as the Braves' No. 4 prospect (per Baseball America) heading into the 2013 season. Though he suffered a down year, BA still ranked him 10th among Braves prospects, and MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo kept his ranking strong at No. 4 despite the poor season.
Gilmartin struggled through injuries and posted a 5.06 ERA across three levels in 2013, averaging 6.9 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in a total of 105 innings. Selected with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2011 draft, Gilmartin draws praise for his polish from both BA and MLB.com. BA writes that his 89-91 mph fastball has good movement and is complemented by a plus changeup and a slider with "sharp, late break." According to Mayo, "[Gilmartin's] ceiling is somewhat limited, but he's not far from being ready to step in as a middle-of-the-rotation type in the big leagues."

I like adding Doumit for the bench but part of me is pissed off that they wasted a pick on Gilmartin in the first place. I didn't bitch too much because Minor worked out but I am gonna be pissed if they waste another first round pick on a 5th starter/AAAA fodder.
Doumit was a NEGATIVE 30.7 in the OF last year in UZR/150

Love the move. Gilmartin wasn't in the future plans even though this years numbers had more to do with his injuries than anything else. He will probably end up being another Scott Diamond but we needed bench depth. It also allows Freddi to be more flexibile with injuries. You could now put Heyward in CF against some pitchers and put Gattis in LF while Doumit catches. Solid move.
