The aim was murder. To kill Trump opponents.

Bob De Niro is a producer of our CENTRAL PARK FIVE film.

We prepped in his building. Still casting there. This isn’t about packages.

This is about people. Killing people who disagree with Trump.

His finger pointing can’t change that.

Packages to Soros, Obamas, Clintons, Brennan c/o CNN, Holder --

these devices, per law enforcement sources, were rudimentary

    but functional.

Meaning the intent here was mass murder.

Add Booker and Clapper to the list.

Kind of funny how it works out. Alex Jones and Infowars are hated by the left for good reason, but it's probably going to wind up being that some infowars watching moronic loon has wrapped up the house for the democrats.

You can tell pretty easily when it's not worth having a discussion with someone, because they just aren't living in reality. People pretending that the baseball field shooting and the ricin attacks never happened. And also pretending the recent calls for incivility from powerful left wing politicians didn't happen. CNN defending ANTIFA didn't happen. Or just choosing to completely ignore it. Also, people who keep claiming this was an attack on the media. Pretty obvious that the media hasn't been targeted, at least not yet. CNN is going all in that it's an attack on media with no evidence.

The same can be true on the right for different issues.

That NPC meme that's going around really is a great meme. One that should be used by both sides. Wouldn't mind having that as an emoji.

so Alex Jones = hero of the lioness left

it's not that complicated...the only question I have is whether he is a witting or unwitting agent of the lioness left

They have a person in custody? Whoever it is isn't gonna win the Terrorist of the Year award.

A man has been arrested in connection with more than 10 packages containing likely pipe bombs mailed in the past week to people critical of President Donald Trump.

The Department of Justice confirmed Friday that a man in Florida has been arrested in connection with the terrorism.

Several news outlets said the man is in his 50s and lives in South Florida, citing law enforcement officials.

All of the packages listed the Florida office of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, as the return address.

I’m having a bit of a hard time with people using the Congressional baseball team shooting as a blanket inoculation against reflection about stirring up the crazy.

So, is there a widespread tendency to demonize the political other? Yeah, sure. Is there anything specifically incendiary about Bernie Sanders’s rhetoric? Not that I’m aware of. Are there conspiracy theorists in left circles? Again, sure. Do they have a huge national media platform akin to the Soros-boogeyman folks? Not that I’m aware of. Did liberals use these same platforms to call the tragic event a false-flag operation engineered by the other side? I don’t think so.

The “ricin” (it was ground-up castor beans) letters that you’re referencing were apparently sent to Trump and military leaders by a Navy veteran with a grudge about his service—there’s not a partisan political angle that I know of.

I agree that individuals are responsible for their actions, but I think it’s whistling past the graveyard not to acknowledge that maybe there’s a line that can be drawn that connects angry Boomer fearmongering and conspiracy theories, and winking at the Charlottesville crowd, with overt acts of terror and violence (of which there have been many in the past few years). This predates Trump, of course, but his unwillingness or inability to behave as a moderating force is certainly not helping, and might reasonably be called an aggravating factor.

Brilliant move by the Dems. I wonder how long Ceyoc will remain "in character", meaning pretending to be an dimwitted Trump follower?

The left certainly has illiberal, paranoid modes of thought. The difference is that the left-wing version resides outside the boundaries of two-party politics, because the Democratic Party is fundamentally liberal not radical. Coulter’s examples of “liberal” violence inadvertently bear this out: the Haymarket Square bombers were anarchists, and the Unabomber developed an idiosyncratic hatred of technology that did not connect to other nodes of left-wing politics. The street-fighting cult antifa lies outside of, and is primarily hostile to, Democratic politics. Left-wing violence from the 1960s likewise came out of radical groups who viewed the Democratic Party with contempt.

The Republican Party, on the other hand, has followed a course that has made its rhetoric amenable to extremism. Republican radicalism enabled the rise of a conspiratorial authoritarian president, and that president has expanded the bounds of the party’s following farther out to the fringe. It is getting harder and harder to distinguish the “normal” elements of conservatism from the “kook” parts. That some of those kooks would resort to violence is not an accident but a statistical likelihood. Trump’s party is a petri dish for diseased minds.

so I will ask the question

there have been people who post here who apparently buy into the seth rich and soros stuff

who believe the mueller investigation is a witch hunt

who seemingly are incapable of looking at basic data about guns and gun deaths

who see white men as an oppressed minority

who cite every stock market high as evidence Trumps policies are working and go silent when the market tanks

how far away are some of them from Sayoc...certainly to me there is a lot of irrationality in what passes for political opinion around here and elsewhere

and one more point...the sane reaction from conservatives and libertarians is to disavow the craziness and form an alliance of convenience with Democrats to defeat the crazies

let's face it...the distinguishing characteristic of the movement that has coalesced around Trump is its craziness and it is a delusion to pretend otherwise

I would think of it in similar terms to Muslims who have become radicalized. There is a fringe element in the religion that takes the peaceful teachings of the religion and preys upon those who either have violent or exploitable tendencies to distort it. While I don’t think we’re in any real danger of a Right-Wing equivalent of ISIS, I can’t say I’m excited about the direction. You get enough charismatic leaders to introduce this world view to the public at large and bad things can ultimately happen. The people predisposed toward fanaticism or desperate enough to buy in to the more extreme elements of this culture can be led to the types of actions Sayoc took.
