Kimbrel trade was as bad as any the Braves have ever made

April 5, 2015: Traded by the Atlanta Braves with Melvin Upton to the San Diego Padres for Jordan Paroubeck (minors), Cameron Maybin, Carlos Quentin, Matt Wisler and 2015 competitive balance round A pick (austin riley).

but...they saved a ton of cash to help pay for that stadium!

so again, we all get sidetracked by talks of the rebuild, but it's clear this rebuild from day one wasn't about rebuilding per se, but rather about rebuilding their financial obligations.

anyway, let's all bitch some more when they don't try to be even cheaper about something next time...amazing.

The rebuild would be in yuge trouble if not for Albies, Acuna and Stewart.

So what you are saying is we should be thankful for Stewart and Wren?

I think we've drafted pretty dang well. It was the jhey trade that led to getting ender and dansby. I think the rebuild is going fine... definetely not on the schedule the FO said though

Not Wren individually, but my point is that Albies and Acuna were legacy gifts from the old regime. And had nothing to do with the drafting and trades that grew out of the rebuild. They were Braves players before the rebuild began.

Hard to keep up around here. Wasn't there just a thread, indicating that Albies is dead wood because he flew out too much over the enormous sample size from his first week and a half in the bigs?

It was one of a piece with the 10 game performances of potential free agent signings the braves didn't make.

*i don't think the fly ball analysis was intended to suggest Albies was a disappointing prospect though.

The old regime is still well intact.

Agreed. At least this trade had equal surplus value when it was made.

The primary issue with the trade in hindsight is obviously Wisler. He was the big piece we received in return, and he looks like he's nothing. His ceiling wasn't thought to be extremely high at the time of the deal, but you still felt like he had a pretty good chance to be a #4 or so.

For a reliever and a bloated contract. How much more can you expect to get than a top 100 prospect and a good pick?

I don't really disagree. Was basically just agreeing that it's a deal that most liked at the time and looks much worse only in hindsight. Wisler collapsed and Margot kept developing. That's the primary difference in the two deals.
