LOL, you think the next move after they clearly just punted 2018 is to add payroll?

I now have hope he can also move Markakis, this was a phenomenal trade.

I agree. We have all this payroll coming off after 2018. Let's be patient and spend the $$ rather than the prospects to upgrade left and/or third after 2018. Waiting allows us to evaluate whether Riley or Camargo can be our long-term third baseman. Spending $$ rather than prospects to fill those needs works to lengthen the window.

Now, they have something of an interesting situation at SP.

Maybe McCarthy and Kazmir aren't good enough to trust or start healthy, but you theoretically now have a lot of veterans on a pitching staff that needs to break in youngsters. Could see a few more moves branching off from this later on.

It also buys you time to try and see which prospects you don't want to trade.

This trade is most of what I asked for this offseason.

It really is a good trade. It helps us at the margins for 2018. And gives us a ton of flexibility for 2019.

The Braves have finally bottomed out payroll like a rebuilding team should have done from the beginning.

Yup. It improves our chances of being able to trade from a surplus of major league or major league-ready starting pitching next off-season. Or as early as mid-season.

I like the fact we will have a loaded rotation in AAA: Soroka, Allard, Sims, Fried. Make those guys earn a spot in the rotation. I think the odds are a couple of them will over the course of the season. And we will need them given the normal attrition you see among starting pitchers. And some of the ones that don't make it as starters will be able to eventually help in the pen.

Yes, or Folty. Or move Folty to the pen.

As an afterthought to all this, I think Kemp is going to help an American League team over the next couple years. He can still hit.

Wonder if Jayson Werth could make some sense as another OF option or "stopgap" type of guy.

Appreciate Kemp and his contributions. That said, seems like a good trade. The best part is it is massively superior in competence to the one that brought him here.

I'll throw up. Might take the year off until he's off the team. What a prick.

Two more moves I'd like to see to round out the off-season:

    1) Trade Adonis Garcia and Akeel Morris to the Marlins for Prado and Barraclough. (Alternatively sign Nunez and Moylan)

    2) Extent the late bloomer.

Next move needs to be Prado and Yelich if Marlins are willing to trade him. Then in 2019 they have a lot of money to spend on the rotation, bullpen and 3b/SS if moves need to be made there.
    thank you weso1!

Very good first big trade by AA. Hopefully the next trade is even better.

Now trade Julio. McCarthy replaces his innings, and we are punting another year of him being healthy.
