With 2 HOF pitchers in their prime, throwing every other night? They were virtually guaranteed to win 3 games out of a 7 game series.

I'm too lazy to look up enscheff's list of possible relief arms (which was well done), but I think a deal with the White Sox for Avilan and Soria should be explored. White Sox will probably look for a young, projectible arm and we have a few of those. Soria has a huge team option for 2019, but with a $1 million buyout. That would essentially make both Avilan and Soria rentals although Avilan hasn't reached free agency eligibility and would have to be non-tendered if the Braves feared a big payday through arbitration.

Didn't the Braves have 3 HOF pitchers during the entire 90s?

Which is why I laugh when people say pitching wins in the playoffs. Playing good is what wins. And that can come from any player.

Kershaw is of the best pitchers in the history of baseball and it hasn't won the Dodgers anything.

Yes, there is a luck component to winning in the playoffs, but we all know the formula for increasing a team's odds of succeeding in the postseason. To claim otherwise is bordering on moronic.

Get 2-3 dominant SPs, 2-3 dominant BP arms, good defense, and as many impact hitters as possible...then hope those hitters don't get shut down by the other team's dominant pitchers.

Declaring something a "crap shoot" is what losers do. The winners talk about how awesome they are.
When fans of teams that are short on talent discuss the playoffs they always say once you get there it's a crapshoot. Fact is, as you said luck IS a part of it, but the better constructed teams usually win. By better constructed I mean teams with fewer holes and better balance. The 90's Braves had awesome SP for the most part but always had a glaring weakness, most often the bullpen.

Teams that usually win a WS have 2 power SP who can get swinging strikes in the zone, 2 dominant relievers, a team of patient hitters who will get the other teams SP out of the game early, a few dangerous hitters who hit for power and good defense, good enough not to give games away at critical times. It also helps if you have an also ran on your team who suddenly plays lights out for a 15 game stretch.

Everyone wants to point to the Royals as an example of a flawed team that got hot, and that can't be denied. But for me it's not about the exception but the rule.

Look like a nice guy low bench bat may be available in Domingo Santana. Maybe Wisler/Sims+ for Santana?

Giants, Cards, and Mets (who all have also had elite pitchers during their runs) put them out on multiple occasions. Even still, the Dodgers have been to half the NLCS's since 2013 and have a WS appearance.

Tigers made the ALCS like 3 or 4 straight years and had a WS appearance during their peak. They probably would have won some BP's that could hold a lead.

the season is a marathon and the playoffs are a sprint. The best sprinters aren't always the best marathon runners.

    Marlins man
3:22 Is Derek Dietrich a possible building block? Or should the Marlins sell high?
    Steve Adams
3:23 He's not a good defender anywhere on the diamond, turns 29 next month and is already over four years of service. Move him to a club looking for a bat-first utility option and be happy if you land even a mid-range prospect.

Add DD to the list of options.

Yeah. His name has crossed my mind. We should be able to pick up some reinforcement for the left side of the infield at a reasonable price.

My guess is Dietrich is send to the Nationals. You know a team that isn’t scared to try and get better. Not too mention their offense has been downright terrible lately.
