That would be a tough deal to turn down. I'd probably say no because I'm wary of pitchers with lots of miles on their arms that are about to get expensive.

I would do it in a heart beat. Adding Price without losing any significant major league pieces would be a major boost to the team. Even without the extension I would do the deal. Worst case we get 2 years of Price and a draft pick.

Disagree with his evaulation of Peraza. A guy with his OBP skill and speed doesn't need much power and that will always be the last tool to develop. John has always been a huge fan of LaStealla so I wasn't surprised to see that ranking.

Interesting to see him highlight Simmons, Thomas and Parsons. To me those guys are the hidden pitching gems of the system. Maybe not so hidden anymore.

I was actually happy that Elander was singled out. He had a rough adjustment after his promotion but ended the year real hot. He could be someone that is the breakout player this year.

The interesting question in a year or 2 will be what to do with Peraza. Lets pretend Tommy comes up and hits. Does Peraza move to 3B? I don't think that's a good move personally. I'm not a fan of defensive first 3B. So then do you replace Simmons? That will be an interesting thought experiment. Simmons well be approaching arb 1 at that point, so he'll be getting more expensive but still cheap enough to have an insanely high value. Or do we include Peraza in a package for a player? I think the latter is the most likely option followed by replacing La Stella if Tommy hits, but it will be interesting to watch.

Is LaStella hits then I think the option is there to move him to 3B. Not sure what his arm strength is like but I think that might be a reasonable move to make.

Peraza's development would give us a huge amount of flexibility. He could potentially play short, second, third or center. He could be part of a trade. Or allow us to trade other players.

At the moment I think of him as the guy who will fill in wherever our system fails to develop players.

Third if Salcedo and Kubitza don't pan out.

Second if La Stella and Pastornicky don't pan out.

Center if Wren, Cunningham and Lipka don't pan out.

Will be interesting to watch. Hopefully it works out. It's better to have depth problems than junk.

What I also want to watch is Caratini. If he keeps hitting, then we maybe just need a stopgap 3B.

The Braves worked him at catcher in the instructional league. Will be interesting to see where he plays next year.

Peraza if he continues to in prove and becomes the player we all hope why not play him at 3B? We have plenty enough power hitters in our lineup so a contact guy with speed would be more than welcome in this lineup.

    Peraza - 3B
    La Stella - 2B
    Freeman - 1B
    J. Upton - LF
    Heyward - RF
    Gattis - C
    Simmons - SS
    B.J. Upton - CF

That would be a pretty awesome lineup if Peraza and La Stella both turn out to be the players we hope for.

He has a really nice swing and a good eye at the plate but is below average defensively. If we had the DH he'd be a perfect fit.

In his chat about the Braves system, Bill Ballew said Elander had one of the best-looking swings in the minors.

Yeah, I don't get it. Maybe Jay is right and his defense is downright atrocious but I don't see why we can't hide some guys in LF every now and again if he is going to be an above average power hitter.

My presumption is that we will have an opening (or two) for a corner outfielder after the 2015 season. I also assume that just about anyone can play left. Elander will be in the mix, possibly with guys like Terdoslavich, Kubitza, Salcedo.

I pretty much agree with everyone Sickels has written. As for Peraza, he might be our next SS if Simmons gets too expensive.

Sickels gives a lot more weight to strike zone judgment in the lower minors than I do, but he's better at this than I'll ever be and as long as he's consistent with his analysis, you won't hear a beef from me.

But the bottom line is we don't have a lot of hitters in the system right now.
