my dad was a Jr. and then named me the same thing as he and my grandpa, and I became the 3rd, and he remained Jr.
i thought it was only the 2nd if you weren't named after your dad, but your grandfather (or someone else in your fam who isn't your dad).
ie your grandfather's name is Joe John Smith, your dad's name is Joe Jacob Smith, but then your parents name you Joe John Smith, after your grandfather. that makes you the II, not a Jr.
i could be wrong but that's been my understanding.

That is not how Jr. and the III actually works in most cases.

I knew Ozzie would rebound when healthy but he's been absurd since returning from the IL. Since Sept. 9, he's slashing .396/.418/.736/1.154 with a 204 WRC+. That's elite production.

I think II can also be used if the first named matches the father's but the middle name of the child is not the same as that of the father. Very rare, but I know of an instance where that is the case. Otherwise, your definition fits what I've always thought common practice to be.

Interesting season for the Braves. Top half of the line-up has been golden. Some fits and starts, but when it's hitting on all cylinders, it has been a thing of beauty. Can't say enough about Freeman. He's a great offensive player and I think the league recognizes that, but he does it all without that much flair so much of his greatness is overlooked by the casual fan and the media.
