My analysis, it's sad this is the point we reached. There wasn't a president on the stage last night.
That being said, Trump would have done better to hold his tongue and not interrupt so much. My guess is he thought he would get Biden flustered and give Trump ammo about Biden's age/mental state. But in the end Trump probably would have been better served to let Biden speak. Biden has often had a tendency to say stupid things when given the chance. Giving Biden more chance to speak without interruption probably would have yielded more Trump could use than interrupting him.
Next, both candidates should have come out against something and refused to answer a question. Biden should have come out against court packing and Trump should have come out against the proud boys. Trump's answer should have been something to the effect of how he represents the overwhelming majority of Americans who want peace and unity and not those fringe groups that sow discord. Biden's refusal to come out for or against court packing makes him look either like he's hiding something or that he's too weak to state a controversial viewpoint.
Ultimately, this debate did nothing except diminish both candidates. Something all too predictable.

I didn’t watch the debate, but reading the reactions here and elsewhere, I can’t help but think Jorgensen would’ve had a positive bump in the polls had she been invited to participate.

In tonight’s presidential debate the President said the “Portland Sheriff”
supports him. As the Multnomah County Sheriff I have never supported
Donald Trump and will never support him.

When you remember that JoeBiden is a stutterer making
his voice heard while being bullied and shouted at, this is
a remarkable example of grace under fire.
we were talking this at home of a Trump strategy, to make Biden stutter uncontrollably

there was no strategy...what we saw is someone with some rather severe psychological problems acting out...he deserves compassion...but he should not be holding high office

"I am a victim, I will tell you. I am a victim."
"I am your retribution."
His debate preppers were Chris Christie and Rudy.
Rudy got a axe to grind with Joe
For two weeks like a boxing trainer he been yelling in Trumps ear, " make him stutter --- make him stutter "
granted, the word "strategy" was a reach

"I am a victim, I will tell you. I am a victim."

the fix that very poorly chosen one needs has nothing to do with politics or debate preparation...he needs help
"I am a victim, I will tell you. I am a victim."
"I am your retribution."
Christie wasn't expecting what happened when he closed the bridge
and Rudy is drunk
foresight aint their strong suit

point is, would you put it past them ?
there was a time when reasonable people said there was no Russian interference, or that Trump was a billionaire, or he really wont impose a Muslim Ban or he really diidnt mean a real wall
those few examples above show, these people are capable of saying and doing most anything
whether they did or not, is immaterial
In real time, having lived around stutterers, I was on the edge of my seat

i wouldn't put anything past anyone
but very poorly chosen one has rarely listened to anyone other than his id...he and the word strategy don't belong in the same sentence
at the end of the day the story of the past four years is one of mental illness...one man's mental illness and a more worrisome form of mass psychosis...i left the Republican Party because it literally went crazy...there are some decent people who stuck it out...they made their calculations...we'll see how it turns out for them, the party and the country

"I am a victim, I will tell you. I am a victim."
"I am your retribution."
i'm trying to remember...there is a very famous political theorist who advocated drawing leaders by lot...Plato?...it is not a bad idea and one with a long lineage
i believe the head of the Coptic Church in Egypt is drawn by lot...from a list...you make up a list of qualified people and draw someone by lot
"I am a victim, I will tell you. I am a victim."
"I am your retribution."
hopefully a clarification is put out
