I have wondered from time to time how being a principled libertarian squares with being part of very poorly chosen one's rapid response team.

I'm glad that some libertarians realize their movement will be stronger without the Q-adjacent dingbats.

It seems apparent, however, that Rand Paul has been angling to inherit what could be called "big tent" libertarianism, including the trumpists, racists and Q-adjacent dingbats (3 groups among whom there is substantial overlap). He has been working hard to position himself as very poorly chosen one's successor as leader of that wing of the GOP.

Is the future of libertarianism one cleansed of the dingbats or one that encompasses Rand Paul's "big tent."

I read an article a while back about Rand’s presidential run where his team estimated through polling that only one third of Ron Paul voters actually had libertarian leanings. The majority were voting for the candidate they thought would most “disrupt the system.” Doesn’t surprise me that a lot of them ended up supporting Trump and Sanders in 2016.

And Rand Paul's political career was propelled by the Tea Party movement, itself a motley crew.

I feel a little nostalgic recalling the Tea Party movement. It seemed to have some idealistic and principled people. What happened?

For someone who has fallen for the most laughable nutjob stories in 3 years... Your constant condescension is hilarious.

Libertarians like myself recognize that Trump is not good... But he is the most libertarian president we have had in some time... And he stands up to endless wars and crackpot critical race theory agendas.

And we also realize that full democratic control who bows to the idiot AOC means a push to socialism that wont be recoverable from.

We also saw how many leaders and governors acted during a pandemic and realize the threat to our most basic liberty is much more at risk than we thought.

I know ill be moving south as soon as i can. July at latest but hopefully April

Really? He is easily the most dirigiste president we've had.

Trying (fortunately without great success) to tell companies where to close and open plants. Trying to use the powers of the state to harm companies (Time Warner, Amazon) he doesn't like. Using trade negotiations and policy with China to try to obtain a narrowly targeted financial windfall for groups in politically crucial states.

That's the opposite of libertarianism as I understand it.

I used to be a registered Libertarian, back when it still resembled the party of Jefferson. It is nothing close, at this point. Disgusting really, and a huge disappointment.

Been watching politics closely since mid to late 60's and have never seen a first term congressperson garner as much attention from the opposition
    ///////////////////////////

why do (R) and passive aggressive (R) get so enthusiastic of agitating people ?
Disagree all you like, but if your only intent in electoral politics is only to agitate people that didn't want to eat lunch with you in high school
    ...
well, that is just weird ****

Curious what caused you to feel that way...what position changes did the party make?

I do think the party is kind of a joke these days. Cant get their **** together and refuse to allow any intellectual differences.

I do like Jo Jorgensen a lot... As well as Larry Sharp.
