I didn’t make a claim one way or the other.

You don’t think the market cycle dictates cumulative gains and losses? I don’t think you do.

They may. Or maybe de-incitivizing investment results in down turn of markets.

You saw what happened today, for example

1986 capital gains realizations accelerated sharply in anticipation of an increase in the tax rate that took effect in 1987

i'm not a fan of capital gains taxation but these changes in tax rate mainly affect timing of realizations...other effects such as on investment are second order (though negative relative to other forms of taxation)

Today was a small blip. There are many other factors that cause downturns like this. Long term this will have limited impact to market performance.

But again, the example provided was two periods on the opposite side of the market cycle. I can’t with good conscious think you don’t believe that was the primary factor in cumulative gains and losses.

Not only is there no evidence it raises revenue... it also punishes the majority of investors in your last to punish a few rich people.

I don’t claim it raises revenue.

I think the stock market has acted as a consolidation of wealth and power tool that has undermined the majority of the country. It has allowed global giants to push out the small business man. It gives advantages to investment houses that are able to get in early on IPOs and secondary offerings at reduced prices.

Early on it was needed to help grow the nation. Now I think it serves to cripple the nation.

Let’s also ignore practices like high frequency trading and super computers that slice profits from the everyday investor with complex algorithms.

Like end stage capitalism it is not in the best interests of the nation.

I’m also saying this as someone who has made quite a bit of money on investments the past year. So these beliefs negatively impact my wallet. I’ll always make a lot of money just like those that do this for a living.

The stock market is not capitalism.

If you want to complain about wealth consolidation, talk to the federal reserve

The federal income tax was originally passed with the understanding that it would only impact the very richest. I think it's a reasonable assumption that the people who voted for it would be appalled at what it has become. I'm generally in favor of almost anything that gets closer to that standard.

Like thethe, I believe that something can have both a negative effect on the bottom line and a positive effect on the economy and the country.

    Ooof!

For the slower people who get fired from part time jobs...

There is no RISK in earning more income at your job.

There is plenty of risk in investing. And when the reward shrinks, the risk becomes a much bigger part of the equation

Ok so because you don't earn as much money selling you'll stop investing?

SO the Biden proposal is raising capital gains on gains over 1M. So basically instead of walking away with 800K you walk away with 600K So you're telling me you wouldn't play on that risk because of Biden essentially making another tier of gains. Which I assume probably like Income tax isn't fully taxed at that rate anyway.

Here's a tip, you're not a millionaire trader, this won't affect you. If you were a millionaire trader you wouldn't stop because of a higher tax. Sure you'd be pissed off. But if you told me my choce was to make 1 Million or 0 I mean come on it's obvious what I would do.

I think I explained it clear enough for someone who claims to understand economics but doesn't show any actual knowledge.

I think people take theory too literally. It’s a frame work but in any experiment the theory can eventually lead you to the right course of action when you see it’s faults applied in a real world scenario.

End stage capitalism and the stock market is leading to the degradation of our country.

Our President is wisely wearing his mask despite being vaccinated, on a Zoom call. Clearly he's concerned about giving his computer a virus.

I mean, they are good at that

They had 4 years of recent experience doing that

Solid real news. Glad it was breaking 911 worthy.

We all know Biden had to wear a mask because how else would the person who's puppeteering him make him function?

The supposed leader of the free world, who is already vaccinated, decided to put on a mask for a zoom call where he is alone.

It's an unbelievable sign oglf ignorance of the science, and huge signal to the vaccine hesitant people that their life gets no better after the shot
