Defense spending fell from $716 billion in 2009 to $596 billion in 2016. Adjusted for inflation, the drop was even larger.

Then something happened and by 2021 it had risen to $778 billion.

Is Ukraine aid considered defense spending? I know we've given them weaponry

I don't think Ukraine was the reason defense spending rose from $596 billion in 2016 to $778 billion in 2021. It was probably something else.

Aid to Ukraine comes out of various accounts. A significant part of it has come from existing stocks of weaponry. But some of it is coming out of new orders.

If you give stock up though, you have you refill, which increases defense spending, right? I really have no idea how they account for this

Yes. But it is spread out over a period of years. Appropriations are sometimes for spending spread out over a good number of years.

Huge win for Biden and Americans in this deal, especially considering what the MAGA idiots wanted. Biden once again schooling the GOP.

Conservatives today do not care about spending.

You’d think there’d be a little bit of reflection on the implications

of the GOP mythology that Joe Biden manages to keep beating

them despite being a drooling dementia-riddled stooge

but there doesn’t seem to be.

    Washington is broken.

Republicans got outsmarted by a President

    who can’t find his pants.

I’m voting NO on the debt ceiling debacle because
playing the DC game isn’t worth selling out our kids
    and grandkids.

It's not about being outsmarted it's about not having differentiated values

I agree conservatives don’t care about spending.

But what’s the big win? Is owning the GOP (or the libs) basically what government has devolved to?

Because across the board Americans hate and are hurt by inflation so a “deal” that guarantees inflationary pressure isn’t what I would call a “huge win”

I’m told this is only for millionaires. Everyone else should be celebrating the growth and expansion of the IRS.

Oh I’m sure unrelated, IRS will now be targeting Venmo and related companies because this is how millionaires make their money. Gotta nail those baby sitters and hair dressers before they buy their second home in Key West.

I am actually shocked a deal was reached at all. From what I saw from MAGA they didnt want a deal. The only conditions they would have accepted werent even ones Biden had the power to offer like shutting down the investigations into Trump. I dont know what Kevin McCarthy's political aspirations are but if I was him this isnt an environment I would want to be speaker in. Nothing he can do will satisfy MAGA. Should have let someone else be the MAGA whipping boy to save his own career.

Now that Tara Reade has defected to Russia, it’s pretty clear the reason she falsely accused Joe Biden of sexual assault is because she was a Russian operative all along. By the way, she just gave a press conference with convicted Russian spy, Maria Butina.

So wait... for three years, he's "Sleepy Joe" and can't talk

or function or think... but he also outsmarted your entire party?

    I see...

Revisiting Tara Reade today seems odd

Pretty sure none of our MAGA friends are interested in restarting that conversation

I have a question for you (that you won't answer).

When a woman makes a sexual assault allegation, should we believe them?
