There is a way to make a sustainable economy while paying every person along the way a living wage, but it's not anywhere close to what we're doing.

    Better option.

UBI. Tax companies who're making massive amounts of profit on the backs of automation, and slide that to people. You could then work a job that pays 10 an hour and still clear 32K in a full work year.
I’m not against UBI as long as it’s a substitute for the majority of our current welfare system.

Why is UBI more preferable than lower taxes?

You’d have to lay out a plan which shows me that the majority of the country gets a similar benefit.

As you know my economic views have changed considerably the past few years. I think the underlying issue is the multi national corporation. While they still exist in their dominant form I’ll support measures to find a way to ensure that wealth is not consolidating further.

But I’d have UBI replace welfare so I’m not sure how much extra to the budget it would cause.

    I’m for that goal.

The multi national corporation along with the recent M&A splurge the last decade has caused such a consolidation of the ‘surplus’ nsacpi discussed that it’s causing instability. Fixing that instability is more important than the chamber of commerce crying about end stage capitalism.

There are two factors for wages.

    1. How much value do you add?

#1 can be difficult to precisely pinpoint, but two can be pretty easy.

Right now, for number two... The cost to replace someone is expensive bc the tax payers are funding non work
It isn't as simple as you think. The mix between wages and profits in the U.S. economy changes quite a bit over time. And within the same firm, there is always this annual process for determining who gets what. When I worked in banking I always took the day bonuses were announced off because I thought there was a fair chance some sort of violence would erupt.

Nice flashback to when the banks got bailed out post-crash and paid bonuses with the money. Meanwhile we’re pissing and moaning about a UI bump during a pandemic.

It certainly does. And the one who reliably delivers their policy agenda, no less under Trump than any other time.

Looks like McConnell and McCarthy didn't get the memo. They are still out there drawing "red lines" against any increase in corporate taxes.

At this point would it be that surprising to see both McConnell and McCarthy get primaried with Trump support? He is already calling McConnell gutless and clueless, and now McCarthy- after pretty harshly decrying Trump after Jan 6- has come out and said no one is questioning the validity of the election, which we know won't sit well.
