    A Picture of Bipartisan Failure

I've put this graph up in a couple other threads, but thought it deserved one of its own.

    "I am a victim, I will tell you. I am a victim."

    "I am your retribution."

The best country in the world

Those other countries will catch up to us when they find out how great it is to not have universal healthcare

As the development of covid vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna (and maybe others) shows we have a system that in some ways is a marvel. And yet the results it produces for our people are decidedly mediocre at very high cost compared to peer countries.

There's so much focus on healthcare in the US because that's something that can be regulated and have money thrown at it. However, there are a ton of factors in the US's lower life expectancy than just healthcare. Diet, exercise, stress, amount of driving, drug use, etc.

Sadly, there's no holistic approach to this topic.

We are also the most obese country in the world. Our access and willingness to ingest garbage food is second to none.

Very few educate themselves about what and how to eat, and much less than that are willing to work to be healthy through exercise.

The info is there... literally spoon fed to you if you want to learn.

The rest of the world uses our medical innovation at a 10th of the cost.

Other countries have been catching up to us with respect to obesity.

That's part of it. Free riding on the investment we make in new treatments. That would account for some of the higher cost of our medical care system. But it doesn't explain the inferior outcomes.

Yes. I'm hopeful that the work from home trend will continue and turn some of this around. My stress level is certainly reduced.

I think that adopting the European model of a 32 hour work week would do more to extend life expectancy than universal health insurance.

Same. The stress of the commute and low level stress of having to be "on" all day wore at me too. I agree that a 32 hour work week and increased vacation time would do more to extend life expectancy than increasing access to health insurance. Stress destroys you. Also, additional free time means more chance to be active.

Obesity + Stress = excess health problems that costs tons of $$$. America is the fattest and 7th (according to Forbes) most stressed. Not a great combo to have.

Fraternity brother of mine dropped dead in his kitchen at 38 years old yesterday evening. His kids found him.

Please take care of yourselves folks. We only get today, tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Exactly. Same reason other western countries don’t spend much on thier military. We’ll do the heavy lifting and they’ll sit back and coast.
