I ordered one the other day when I found out about it.
I went to order this, and it is actually a present from my girlfriend. She had to stop me from ordering it. lol So I already have one!

Let's ignore so much about this that is utterly ridiculous, and just point out the obvious that the only thing being removed is the caricature of Native Americans that America created to make it easier to sell the whole "savage" storyline. The fact that you think this **** in anyway represents a cultural reference to Native Americans is exactly the reason it should be changed.

I also liked the Cleveland Rocks idea someone here tossed around the last time we spoke about this.

    A couple more ideas: Moneyballers

My high school was the Scorpions. Which I think is a great nickname. Go Scorps!

Yup. It honors a place name that comes from a Native American language.

The other Braves forum I follow (https://bravesjournal.us) has already, in their minds, given up and changed the team's name to the Hammers. They even have tee shirts.

I read it as kinda tongue in cheek. It's just funny that white millennial men love telling other races and cultures what they should be offended by

Dude I'm with you if we are successful we will have no mention of any native american culture in popular social circles.

My daughter is I competitive cheer. Man the pc group would have a field day with that group. The whole cheer company she is with is all tribal names. The call sign is A-C-E whoop whoop what’s your tribe. Then the team is like the cherokees. Or warriors. Or Braves. All teams my daughters have been on.

    Cleveland Colonizers.

They'd have to pay the producers of Brockmire a royalty fee, but it would be worth it.

Chief and Brave are both ranks within a tribe, right? The fact one is more politically correct than another is proof this thing is an absurdity.

That said, the Braves could drop the tomahawk and do a marketing campaign this year based upon Atlanta being the "cradle of the Civil Rights Movement" and the Brave people that participated. The year after they could highlight the railroad to the mid-west and the Brave people that participated. The year after that focus on Coke and the Brave people that launched a global empire out of Atlanta.

Its a word that becomes a proper Noun only in respect to the baseball team now located in Atlanta. Hard to do that with Chief, Redskin Seminole or Blackhawk.

Pretty funny that all sorts of people come out screaming about how ridiculous and and bothersome it is to ask a sports team to change its name or logo because some people find it insulting. Like it or not, if you're not Native American your opinion on the subject carries exactly zero weight.

The Redskins became the Football Team months ago - what happened to all the folks that were up in arms about that? Listening to the screaming about that would have made you think the world was about to end. What any team is called apparently doesn't change the time it takes for the earth to rotate around the sun, but if someone finds it offensive, change the *amn name - I promise that won't make it any less fun to watch Acuna play.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Chief is used quite often as an insult. I have been called "chief" more times than I can count, and it is never meant in some positive way.

    I have another idea

    How about the Atlanta Martins

pronounced marteenz...no one will confuse it with Marlins

It's always kind of amused me that I ended up a fan of both the Braves and the Chiefs (while my college sports allegiance requires a profound hatred of a school with a Native-themed nickname). I think in theory it's possible for the Braves to massage this and make it work, but there's a lot of bad blood built up over the years. You have decades worth of Tomahawk Chops and Chief Noc-A-Homas and dudes in head dresses and big, elaborate drum music. It's hard to come back from that and find a way to sell "Braves" to a skeptical public.

The Chiefs might be a little bit more salvageable, because they've never been quite as all-in on the Native iconography as some of the other teams in question. I would still bet on them having a new nickname at some point in the next 5-10 years.
