I responded "Hank Aaron." Her rejoinder was, "But will he be your hero when you're 40 years old?" I didn't know then, but when I turned 40, Hank Aaron was still my hero and, at age 67, he's still my hero today. Just an absolutely graceful presence in the game and a class act off the field. I'm right now looking at a couple of the biographies of him that are on my office library shelf and I imagine I will pick them up again in the days ahead.
I did a book report on Hank for 5th grade. And never stopped learning about him. And the more I learned, the more my admiration grew.

I tried swinging a bat cross-handed once and almost broke my wrists. The cross-handed hitting is one little piece of trivia I've always marveled at.

My favorite Hank quote: The pitcher has got only a ball. I've got a bat.

I was fortunate enough to see Hank play several times. He was a joy to watch because he played the game to the fullest extent. So sad to see this great baseball man pass on. I doubt that there is another player who will ever be able to tell about the greatness of this game.

Condolences to Hank's immediate family and to all of his extended family of Atlanta and the baseball world.
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;......

And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

I don’t think we’ll have enough space on our jerseys to honor our greats if this keeps going

    I agree.

Beyond obvious hindsight, and I know Dodger fans are happy they got one for Lasorda, but I dearly would have loved to have taken it last year as well.

Crimson, do you mind trading some Alabama national titles for some World Series?😇

Too young to have the memory of him playing but he is the Braves icon. Of all the Braves greats, he was and always will be the foundation of this franchise. RIP Hammer, you made a mark and left a legacy.

A terrific obituary. And the readers comments are worth a look.

IMO I think the most fitting tribute to Hank would be to get rid of the obnoxious Truist Park and rename it Hank Aaron Memorial Park. As far as I can remember only Connie Mack Stadium has been named for an ex-player. It was in truth actually named for the owner at the time.

How many sigs would be needed to make Liberty make the change?

So sad to hear. He was truly a legend with so few peers. There's an inner circle of Hall of Famers and he's right there in the middle of it.

Lib don't care about sigs. It's the money they care about. Considering ho awful our TV deal is for another few years, the stadium naming rights still helps.
