Some interesting responses to Glenn's post.

One person responded that this was not a free speech issue. The contractors affected are free to picket, protest, write editorials, etc against this policy.

Another responded state governments have the power to adopt policies against discrimination. This policy against any boycott of Israel falls within this ambit.

It seems to me this is an example of something that is legal but not wise. Similar to the Redskins fining del Rio. Or a school firing employees (or not giving them tenure) because they did not follow school policy about beards or officiating at a gay wedding.

Unwise. Silly. Somewhat oppressive. But legal and consistent with constitutionally guaranteed rights.

I don’t think it’s a free speech violation, but I do think it’s wrong. I don’t think we have a constitutional right to earn government contracts, and as such, don’t think it’s for the courts to decide. However, this would be a law I’d heavily disagree with.
