I know it's not likely but man would I love it if we could get either Alex Binelas or Henry Davis from Louisville. Living here and seeing them both they are both mashers and would look fantastic in Braves in Unis

Feels like the upside in that range is probably high school arms and bats since everyone loves the college boys so much these days.

New Baseball America mock apparently has some info on players we are connected to at 24, but I'm not a subscriber: https://www.baseballamerica.com/rank...lb-mock-draft/.

They have us taking Baez as well - says we had a couple "decision makers" in to see him for a doubleheader recently and that he went deep twice that day.

Gotta remember it's not just "still early", it's even earlier than in years past with the draft not happening until the All-Star break. Big weekend this weekend in Cary - first of the six big regional showcase events going on.

New Pipeline mock has us taking RHP Tommy Mace from UF. https://twitter.com/mlbpipeline/stat...458450441?s=21

As a UF fan who has watched Mace underwhelm for four years now, I’m going to be really disappointed if he’s the pick at 24. He has no business being considered in that range.

Always rather crazy to go out on a limb and criticize when you are who we are, but another college arm that you would assume will be quick to the big leagues seems really stupid unless it's someone that's a "no-doubter" that slides pretty far.

Not sure there's a college arm that will be available where we pick that cracks our Top 10 pitching prospects unless one falls quite a way.

Kiley's first mock on ESPN has us taking LHP Jordan Wicks from Kansas State. Hard to come up with a more underwhelming report than this:

"Wicks could go as high as the middle of the teens, but slides a bit in this scenario due to a lack of impact stuff. He should miss a decent amount of bats with a plus changeup, solid pitchability and an average fastball/slider combo even though his slider is inconsistent."

    Woof.

Also worth noting, Ole Miss RHP Gunnar Hoglund is reportedly having TJ. That's now him and LSU RHP Jaden Hill who were top 10 picks that are now having TJ and will fall. I'd be perfectly fine with one of them at 24 instead of some boring, low ceiling pick like Wicks/Mace.

Yes. I would much rather take a rebuilt arm with talent versus a healthy Kolby Allard. We don’t need more of these guys who ‘just know how to.’

Yeah, Mace has never lived up to his billing or pedigree. Honestly, I haven't even been impressed by his stuff. I've always liked Leftwich more.

Sounds a whole lot like the type of guy I was talking about in the other thread. Would love to see them take some guys with higher ceilings earlier on, but if they're Sure they'll be able to get higher ceiling guys like Harris and Grissom later on it's kinda tough to *itch about the strategy.

Amen. I'm tired of low ceiling, college pitchers.

We have most of our spots filled with good pitchers. If healthy (I know, big IF) you have Fried, Soroka, Anderson, Ynoa, Wright, Wilson and four college pitchers from last draft. Plus Davidson, Muller, Touki and a bunch of low cost vets.

I would like us to get HS players with upside who can hit.

    Speaking of drafted pitchers

Through 85 1/3 innings between last year and this season so far Carter Stewart is rocking a 4.11 ERA in Japan.

Is this good for a young pitcher there?

No idea. Since I was bored and looked into a little more it looks like last year he was in what was considered their minor league and 14 of his 18 innings this year were in their minors too. He has a 12.46 era in 4 1/3 innings at their top level for whatever that's worth.

Hoglund injury likely pushes someone else further down - we may yet get someone with a decent ceiling early on.

This site does a good job with draft stuff and just released their latest mock: https://www.prospectslive.com/mlb-dr...-mock-draft-40

    Braves pick:

    24. Atlanta Braves
    Peyton Stovall, Second Baseman, Haughton

Stovall is in play all over the board. The Dodgers have sent seemingly everyone in the scouting department to see him, while the Brewers, DBacks, Mariners, Cardinals and Tigers have been all over him as well. We’ve got him going to the Braves, an organization severely lacking in up-the-middle talent on the dirt. If you’re buying Stovall, you’re buying the bat. It’s a plus hit tool with a loaded, lofty left-handed swing that generates solid bat speed. Some project a potential .280 hitter with 25 home run power, a player similar to Kyle Seager, Todd Walker or Jason Kipnis. He will almost certainly immediately make the move to second base in pro ball where his soft hands and average arm will play up. The Braves have been connected to several prep outfielders as well, so don’t be surprised to hear Benny Montgomery, Joshua Baez, Jay Allen or someone like Malakhi Knight this high.

I guess generally most of the high upside SS types are gone by 24 as well, but I agree with the analysis that the Braves are lacking there. Organizationally, they tended to get those guys from international signings and that may be the biggest hole these days.

I think their two highest profile international signings now that the penalties have expired are both infielders. I thought I read somewhere that it expected they will outgrow the SS position.
