It's funny you are making the same case Biden did when peolle blames him for mass incarceration. Federal police generally aren't involved in low level crimes. Regardless of the number of people in any prison for marijuana there are hundreds of thousands of arrests for it and that gets people started in the meat grinder which is the criminal justice system. People get probation for simpe possession and then get locked up for probation violation. It wont say they are in for simple possession. Someone sneezes in a cop while being arrested now its resisting and possession. I dont know an exact amount but I know not everyone in prison for trafficking was actually trafficking. I know one homeless guy got a life sentence because an undercover cop asked him if he could find some and the dude tried to help so he could get money to buy himself food. He was homeless because he had prior offenses and its why he got life but he wasnt trafficking despite what his charges say.

I really don't understand the logic of using the argument that people aren't in prison for simple possession to say we shouldn't legalize.

Not every victim goes to prison for marijuana possession. **** like this is 100% because of the ridiculous classification of marijuana. This dude is being persecuted for growing the same crop as George Washington. All the talk about the FBI and conspiracy against people and this shows a clear government conspiracy but none of these people will be held accountable for their actions. This is why I laugh at your perceived grievances against the FBI. The government gets away with it 99.99% of the time without real accountability. Suing and getting tax payer money is not real accountability.

Few people are charged with simple possession. Prosecutors will charge you with every thing they can. This is a step to stop that one charge from coming up hopefully.

That many went to the ER, but how many actually needed to go to the hospital? My guess would be next to none. Probably only the ones that fell down, but we don't criminalize alcohol because some seniors might get drunk and fall down.

I didn't even know about this. Mississippi passed a referendum legalizing medical marijuana..... buy Mississippi rules state that you need a majority in all 5 Congressional congressional districts to pass..... only problem is because so many people leave the hell hole that is Mississippi they only have 4 Congressional districts...... so their courts invalidated it and there's now an impossible to meet standard for referendums.....

The aholes in their state Congress did then pass a medical marijuana bill but requires a person to try opiates and other risky treatments first which is not what voters wanted. And to be clear the voters voted for the referendum was 68% of voters and there was a more restrictive version on that same ballot that lost by 50%. Just a good old **** you to the voters of Mississippi by their elected offcials.

HHS has sent a letter to the DEA recommending Marijuana be moved from schedule 1 to schedule 3. I am cautiously optimistic about this. Glad they are doing something. That it took a year to state that water is wet is ridiculous. This route Biden has taken allows the DEA to make the decision which does not sit well with me. If its the head of the DEA itself making the decision she is a political appointee so I will assume she is a rational and logical person. The rank and file of the DEA will never agree to give up a shred of power so if they have any say it will never pass. This is not legalization though. For whatever reason politicians who depend on voters support all refuse to give the voters what they want. This is a step in the right direction but its annoying they are slow rolling this and giving the people who have a financial stake in prohibition make the decision. There is no single issue that is a better representation of government corruption than marijuana.

In his State of the Union address this month, President Joe Biden declared that "no one should be jailed for simply using" marijuana or "have it on their record." He amplified that message on X (formerly Twitter) that night, saying, "No one should be jailed just for using or possessing marijuana." Biden said those things on the same day that federal prosecutors in North Carolina filed a brief defending the federal ban on gun possession by cannabis consumers, whom they likened to "lunatics" and violent felons.

Biden, who during his 2020 campaign promised to "decriminalize the use of cannabis," thinks marijuana users are not doing anything that justifies arresting them. Yet his Justice Department simultaneously insists marijuana users are so dangerous that they cannot be trusted with guns even when they are completely sober—so dangerous, in fact, that they are altogether excluded from "the people" whose "right to keep and bear arms" is guaranteed by the Second Amendment.

Biden is simply virtue signaling for votes on the issue. His move for a review of Marijuana scheduling is going to end with them saying "well Congress needs to act" when he could have just sought Congress to act in the first place when Democrats had the House and Senate. Soon what we will hear is "well if you want decriminalization you will have to re-elect me". Then if he wins he continues doing nothing but at that point he no longer needs votes. Pretty much exactly what I said would happen before the 2020 election.

Even when we get to the point of Congress acting Democrats are going to sabotage an issue with bipartisan support and hold the issue hostage by requiring reparations. I dont disagree that the government should pay for the victims of their lies much like the cigarette companies did but you cant hold the issue hostage like that. Do it in a separate bill, but they know that wont get enough support.
