Loved the demeanor of Smith. Gave up a double but never looked shook like the rest of our pen does. Was in control and was good to see us close this one out.

I was only able to watch the last two innings so I don't know how the home plate ump was the entire game. I thought the Nats caught a bad call on the low third strike.

That said, they won't let it go on the Nats postgame. Was there a similar third strike call on Riley earlier in the game? DeRosa said there was no comparably bad call against the Braves.

    Fill me in here...thanks.

One to Riley that was similar, and one to Pache that was even worse.

Riley's was probably a half baseball higher in the zone. Both were balls imo. The ump had a huge zone for both sides though all game.

Understand. However, all bad calls are not created equal. Did they cost us runs or were they in high leverage situations? If they were, then the bad calls evened out. If not, then we did, in fact, appear to catch a break.

This felt like the type of cheap win to offset some of the cheap losses we've had this year. We will take it

Both came in the 4th inning. Riley would of walked to load the bases with no outs. Pache struck out after 3 had scored but there was a runner on 2nd.

The difference was timing of the calls. Pitches were all balls called strikes, but the one we got the call on was in a big situation. I hope the Nats cry themselves to sleep over it too. Been there way too many times - most recently phillies game where they went to replay and STILL got it wrong. Suck it Nats.

Agreed that the Phillies call at home plate was an epic screw job.

I thought the called third on Riley was legit. It was too close to take on a full count.

Ooooh. I like it. Time for Charlie to clean up The Big Inning. Glad to miss Wheeler, too.

I thought it was defensible, but not a strike. Too close to take is right.

If it was a ball, then it was a bad call. If it was a strike it was a good call. He should have been protecting on a pitch that close, but that didn't make it a good call.
