when you’re being inundated with all this American Fourth Of July brouhaha, don’t forget what you’re celebrating, and that’s the fact that a bunch of slave-owning, aristocratic, white males didn’t want to pay their taxes.

I'm happy not to be singing God Save the Queen, which I had to do as a boy when she deigned to visit some of her subjects. Nothing personal Lilibet.
Aside from that put me down in the camp of those who believe that America IS and HAS ALWAYS BEEN a great country. Imperfect of course, now and in the past. But a great country founded upon great principles. I am always struck when I talk to people in other countries how much they admire the United States. They criticize us and hold us up to a very high standard. That is a great compliment. No one bothers to criticize a mediocre country. No one is disappointed in Russia or China for failing to act in a principled way. But when we fail or screw up, people in other countries are disappointed and get upset.

The Chosen One (07-04-2021)
A handful of badasses decided to say **** tyranny and created the greatest nation to ever exist. And created the best standard of life and the most diverse country to ever exist. And created a governing model that many other countries decided to try to emulate. And created a place that oppressed people flee their communist ****hole to make a better life for themselves.
Happy fourth, indeed
If we really want to live the values of the Fourth, a stoic refusal to compromise with the most destructive and childish of our fellow citizens is a good start. Stand for participatory democracy and don't indulge those who would set the constitution aside out of some sense of hyper-exaggerated grievance and victimhood.

I for one am thankful for the greatest cop killers of all time. If they proved anything it's that government corrupts absolutely. The US government has been granting itself all kinds of new and fun powers. When you get right down to it it's all just being made up as we go. For ****s sake we outlawed the very crop George Washington grew. He would be serving life in prison for that nowadays.

Thinking of patriots
I raise my glass to the patriot who put down at least one of the cult that attacked our democracy on January 6th
Too bad more didn’t die for trump with her

I wanted to give a special shoutout to the 100+ members of Congress who diligently put out messages celebrating the 4th of July just a few months after they voted to set aside the constitution and disenfranchise Arizona and Pennsylvania.

I want to give a special shout out to the politicians celebrating independence day a year after they celebrated locking down the citizens and canceling the bill of rights
Tu Quoque
Tu quoque (/tjuːˈkwoʊkwi, tuːˈkwoʊkweɪ/; Latin Tū quoque, for "you also"), is an informal fallacy that intends to discredit the opponent's argument by attacking the opponent's own personal behavior as being inconsistent with the argument's conclusion(s). This specious reasoning is a special type of ad hominem attack. "Whataboutism" is one particularly well known instance of this fallacy. The Oxford English Dictionary cites John Cooke's 1614 stage play The Cittie Gallant as the earliest use of the term in the English language.
