If I were AA and trying to trade Morton, I'd look at someone who might be looking for multiple pieces and really leverage him to get big pieces. Offer to cover his salary for the rest of the season to buy a really high-level prospect that's really close, or multiple strong prospects.

The Giants "say" they aren't trading Bart for a rental but if they get Morton without adding payroll and can STILL go out and add Marte and other pieces too, is that written in stone? Maybe package Morton and Smith while paying Morton's salary and ask for Bart and Luis Matos. Tell Cashman you'll pick up the tab if he sends you Oswald Peraza AND Luis Medina. Tell Tampa you'll cover the money if they'll send Cole Wilcox and Josh Lowe back.

So the morning of July 30, where do the Braves need to be in order to be buyers? Obviously, losing 5 straight to the Mets turns them into sellers. But what if they take 3 of 5 and increase their playoff odds to 15%? What if they do better and increase their odds to 20%?

My opinion: If the playoff odds are at 15%+ on July 30th, and nobody else is injured...buy.
538 has the Braves current playoff odds at 20%. 19% to win the NL East.

I'll stick with FG's projections, but the point is the odds need to improve by the deadline to justify being buyers.

    Trade for Karinchak and Ramirez.

    Move Riley to LF!

2022 Riley and Pederson platoon LF.
    Sign Nelson Cruz for DH.

Marlins want an heir apparent for Marte.

Unless a team is extremely desperate, I don’t see how that trade will work for Miami in 2021 unless they pay the rest of his salary and throw in another player (doesn’t necessarily have to be a good player).

I don’t see Riley being relegated to the weak side of a platoon after this year. Even on a better team, he is more valuable than that.

Would be interesting to find out how many of the ultimate decision-makers have tight relationships with each other. We know some do, because we can see how quickly trades come together in a hurry between certain teams. Unlike most of the writers (and dumb*sses like Chip), I think this has worlds more to do with a pair of GMs' relationship and trust in each other than any type of extra familiarity with certain prospects because one GM spent time in that system. Deals between the Dodgers and Braves would be presumably easier NOT because Alex has any sort of intimate knowledge about their kids, but rather because he's spent much more time with their upper level scouting and development guys and management and understands their philosophy and how they conduct business.

I mention this because I think we'll be able to find out who AA has particularly good relationships with this week. We've heard GMs talk for years about how it typically takes days and even weeks for trades to come together. When you're 6 days from the deadline and still don't know whether you're buying/selling/standing pat like the situation Alex is in, I'm guessing he already has several deals worked out depending on what happens between now and Thursday and he and the GMs for those teams are in agreement that "if nothing changes", it only takes a quick call or text to say "OK - let's send the paperwork in", and he can trust that if he calls there doesn't need to be any more negotiation - he knows what he'll get if he trades whomever away, and he knows what prospects it's going to cost him if he wants so-and-so. I think most deals have already been agreed to for the most part, and everybody's just sitting back to see how their next 5 games play out and watching to make sure no one gets hurt - a hot or cold next few days from a player being traded for or prospect being shipped away doesn't really affect anything this late in the process.

He can play most of the week. Pederson play center field before. The problem is Snitker….

Where does he play for the Padres? LF? Or do they move Cronenworth to 1B and bench Hosmer?

EDIT: Rumors around Frazier indicated that three-to-five teams were expressing interest (of course, they were rumors) so maybe there was a bidding war for him. Abrams would really be a nice get for the Pirates as mentioned above, but somehow the Padres avoid overpaying for these deals.

It was rumored they were in the A. Frazier sweepstakes, so Merrifield would make sense as the next option down the list.

we’ve been passing on big trades for the last few years. This year or not doesn’t change that narrative

For that deal, Pittsburgh needed to ask for MacKenzie Gore...But I guess a poverty franchise like Pittsburgh wants quantity over quality.
Idk- Tucupita Marcano is all star quality name.

    Guys gonna be a stud
