Freddie has constantly said that playing his ENTIRE career wearing one uniform is extremely important to him - much like it was to Chipper. There's never been the first hint that he's interested in spending two months somewhere else in an effort to make the team better in 2022. He doesn't appear to give two *hits whether that fits anybody's idea of what's "logical" or not, and he's consistently maintained that he's willing to give the Braves some level of hometown discount to stay if management wants him here. That's the human side of him, and apparently he doesn't give two *hits whether that "adds up" on someone's spreadsheet.

Those are the facts, like them or not. I've got a pretty good feeling that if you trade him to a contender "so he gets a chance to win a ring", there's a *amn good chance he tells his reps not to bother returning the call if they want to bring him back this winter. Logic be *amned that's just his personality, and he's EXACTLY the type of person that would take being traded away personally enough to hold that sort of grudge. He's already made more money than the next 2-3 generations of his family can spend and he's going to get piles more wherever he winds up - he offered you the chance to offer a much smaller pile, and you said "no thanks".
All of this has been said by/about countless soon-to-be free agents over the last 50 years. It very rarely works out that way because players almost always follow the dollars despite everything they say publicly. Does anyone think Freeman "loves" Atlanta more than every other FA who said the exact same thing about whatever city they are currently playing? I bet we can find very similar quotes from Mac.

I find it impossible to believe Freeman wouldn't be signed already if his agent told AA he was willing to take a series of 2-3 year extensions at a discount rate like Chipper did. The fact that hasn't happened is much more telling about his intentions than anything Freeman says to the public.

    Nats listening on Turner.

That’s a player id move a good bit of prospect capital for. He hits the market in 2022, but man if love for him to be a brave beyond that year

That’s why it amazes me every time I see someone say Melancon or Duvall didn’t want to be here.

Absolutely no reason to have an interest in Turner, Bryant, Marte, or similar players.

If they're not going to spend money to extend the face of the franchise, what on God's green earth would make anyone believe they'd do it on anyone they traded for???

I think a multimillionaire can figure out a way to temporarily move his family of preschool children for a relatively small time period. He's figured it out for spring training.

I absolutely think Freeman wants to be here. I also don't think he would have any objections to being traded to a contender for 2-3 months, though I'm sure he would prefer the west coast.

The problem here is that we have no clue whether anything like that has ever been offered. If it has and Freeman hasn't accepted, AA is absolutely doing the right thing. You're placing the responsibility for deciding terms on Freeman, and that's simply not his job. AA has to offer something for the player to consider, not the other way around. The only things we've heard from either side is...

1.) Alex says "we want Freddie to be here for his entire career".
2.) Freddie says he wants to be here for his entire career.
3.) Freddie told the press there hadn't been any offer at the time he said he didn't want to talk during the season.

#3 absolutely may be a negotiating ploy on his part, but AA has said nothing to make anyone think that's the case. If the series of extensions has been offered, Alex is an idiot for not letting something like that leak - he doesn't have to let the terms get out, but by not saying that has been an option for Freddie the entire time he has completely ceded the high ground while Freeman has entrenched himself deeper and deeper with his return to MVP level form and the Charlie/Tatis clips and pictures in front of everyone on a daily basis.

If Alex actually offered a series of 2-3 year extensions and was willing to play chicken because he thought Freeman's performance or PR would eventually drive the number where he wanted it to go, he's losing that game badly - to the point that he's now backed into the corner of having to try to paint Freddie as "just another greedy ballplayer who wasn't willing to do what it took to help the team".

It was pretty common knowledge at the time that Chipper took the home discount for personal reasons related to his off field choices and childrens sake. Not necessarily money nor personal preference as to where he finished his career. Another point I would like to make if my memory serves but does FF not have the same agent that Chipper used? And another point to consider: FFs twins were born in California this past winter as was mentioned several times during his stressful spring training. So his ties obviously are very strong to California maybe moreso than Atlanta.

We don't know. Its all pontification and thought exercises for us. Probably 5 people really know whats going on...and they ain't talking right now. Pretty much a useless venture to think it out.

I really hope we sell some pieces but I can see holding FF for sentimentality sake if he's fine with that. He may veto anything we try to do anyway...

To your point, it's really been puzzling to how this has all played out. Freddie has gone on record many times since the season ended last year saying he wants to stay. AA went on record saying they want to keep him and it's on him to get it done. Yet, nothing has been offered to this point? Makes no sense.

    Right.

AA and his people are better than anyone when it comes to being tight-lipped, so I'm quite sure they could tell Freddie that they won't let the numbers being discussed get out - whatever they are will make one side look bad, and that's not good for either side in the long run. However, not at least having the perception out there that they've actually made some kind of offer worth considering really makes it look like the team is only interested in the number at all costs and that if Freddie doesn't like it they're not interested in negotiating no matter what he means to the clubhouse or the fans.

The only side that looks bad is management as things stand. Is Freddie being "greedy"? To a point, of course he is. That said, he stuck with a rebuilding team on a below market deal throughout the rebuild and became the face of the franchise and one of the 5-10 best players in the game. Expecting to be rewarded for that isn't quite the same thing as Folty taking the team to arbitration over $100K.

Still not a fan. We hold valuable assets (Morton/Smyly) that can help us in the future. Holding them to pursue our 8% playoff chance is not smart.
