Last little bit about Buxton. He doesn't turn 28 until December, and when healthy he won a Gold Glove and Platinum Glove (!). He was considered the fastest player in the minors when he blew through Chattanooga in 2015 (20 out of 22 in stolen bases). In the majors, he has 67 career steals against only nine CS. He was 29-for-30 in 2017 and 5-for-5 this year.
Power? he has 10 homers in 27 games this year.

And deGrom can’t stay healthy now either. The Mets just aren’t scary. This division is definitely gonna be a 3 team race the rest of the way.

And that wasn't a rental. Everyone here gets to be a broken record about something and I realize that I go on and on (and on and on) about it, but Anthopoulos really missed the boat by not acquiring S. Marte last trade deadline. Marte's presence would have (1) been the CF that would have allowed us not to bank on Pache, and (2) lessened the need to wait on Ozuna (and make a bigger financial commitment in terms of total contract value than one year of S. Marte). I get the financial pressures, but given (2), I can't see why whoever was holding the pursestrings couldn't figure that the presence of S. Marte would have given the team greater financial flexibility.

I mean, I’m pretty confident that the Mets end up winning the division, but I don’t think the separation is as large as some people here want to make out. Braves have a snowball’s chance in hell at pulling this off.

Probably pretty important to note that the reason the Marlins were able to get such a big return was they agreed to cover all of the remainder of Marte's salary, which comes out to around $4.5 million. That's no small number, and teams usually don't do that type of arrangement when making a deal. Smart move by the Marlins though. We should do the same with Morton.

Twins offered Buxton 7/73 initially. Buxton’s camp countered and the Twins upped the offer to 7/80. Buxton is concerned with the incentives not being what he wants. The best thing you can be is available. Buxton rarely is out there playing for more than a few weeks at a time.

Yeah we could get Buxton but he just screams Melvin Upton part 2 to me.

Marte's trade last year was more about cash than anything else. Any team willing/able to take on salary was in a very strong position.

"Of course, the 2020 season has brought about some pressing revenue losses for all 30 clubs, and D-backs owner Ken Kendrick was among the most outspoken owners about the hardships faced by teams with fans unable to attend games. "

Remember that little pandemic that massively cut revenues? The Braves were not immune to that reality.

The fact the Marlins were able to take advantage is surprising, and speaks to the changes that are hopefully happening in that org.

He's a better player than Upton when healthy, but the injury issues make any long term investment in Buxton a roll of the dice.

That is all true, but then they turned around and made a bigger commitment to Ozuna pre-2021. I think the relevant point is that the financial commitment they would have made to S. Marte is much smaller than the one they made to Ozuna. It's hard to say you can't make a deal because you're broke and then ladle out a set of lucrative contracts (Morton, Smyly, Ozuna). The logic doesn't add up for me, but again, I wasn't in the room where the decisions were made and don't have access to the ledger books being consulted and the assumptions related to revenue expectations.

I haven't been this critical of a deal (or lack of a deal) since Schuerholz didn't give Sheffield a fourth year and he ended up trading for J.D. Drew (and didn't give him a QO).

Buxton has missed more games than he’s played I am pretty sure.

Sources: Trevor Story market has become more active in last 24 hours. #Yankees and #SFGiants among the interested clubs. San Francisco would love to add Story or Kris Bryant.

Agree. Theres just something about trusting a starter the first few weeks back in a pennant race\playoff game.

If I were the Mets, I'd bring him back in the bullpen this year if he's deemed able to pitch.
