Chopping With The Braves And Rolling With The Tide
2016 can't get here fast enough. Oh..wait...

Move means nothing except maybe an end to whoever has been catching games.
I am sure some will spaz out about trading a prospect though.

The big question is Why?

How are we going to feel the Berne now?
Lol. Is he better than Smith?
So the answer is yes. I guess. Who cares?
Looks like he's replacing Lucroy. Smith probably gets the boot once d'Arnaud is back -- unless Travis is traded before the deadline.
No better or worse than Smith or Lucroy. So why with TDA close to return. Is there a move of TDA in the works? Surely Jackson deserves another look. Could that $1M be used to more advantage?
Just saw on DOB twitter that Lucroy is gone. Another why?
More window dressing, but it's actually really nice to see IMO.
Alex gave up a prospect who was likely going to be out of the organization this winter for "help". This deal was done strictly for the players and is simply about improving the mood in the clubhouse. The players see this as Alex going out there and trying to get them help - no matter that it's not actually any real help. Vogt is a MLB player with his picture on baseball cards and a track record you can easily look up on the internet. 75% (or more) of the guys in the clubhouse have either never met Berne or wouldn't know him if he walked up to shake their hands, and as far as they'll ever know Vogt is HOF level compared to him.
Rearranging deck chairs? Absolutely. But another deal or two like this and the announcement of a Freeman extension will keep the clubhouse together and "happy" for the rest of the year - their GM is "trying to do things to help them win".

Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
Berne was repeating rookie league ball as a 25-year-old so I will be curious where the D-Backs put him. Pretty impressive power numbers as a college player. Hails from Lumberton, North Carolina, birthplace of former Braves' first-round pick Tommy Greene and the setting for David Lynch's Blue Velvet.
That aside, I really do wonder what the heck Anthopoulos is thinking. The dice were hot for him with the one-year deals to Donaldson and Ozuna, but he's been rollling snake eyes ever since.

Hell yea…when your pitching is sh*t and 100% root cause of why you have an awful team….trade for a catcher! We’re good to go.

What are Paul Bako and Henry Blanco up to these days?

What cracks me up is how this was announced at 1 AM. I’m imagining Greg Maffei watching his first Braves game of 2021 from a bunker underneath a volcano, stroking an ocelot and drinking a tropical-fruit-and-stem-cell smoothie. He picks up a red telephone.
“Mr. Anthopoulos…I’m aware of the hour. Your failure is quite unacceptable. You have one hour to upgrade the catcher position, or we will initiate the Coppolella protocol.”
But that’s pure fantasy because he doesn’t watch Braves games.
Blue Velvet was filmed mostly in Wilmington, NC, but the story is set in Lumberton.
As for the deal, I tend to agree with your post above. It reminds me of how Terry Ryan ran the Twins in the mid-to-late 1990s and ran a series of veterans out there who had seen better days to appease manager Tom Kelly, who really refused to watch developmental baseball at the major league level. Snitker probably attended the same school as Kelly and figures if you are going to lose, at least lose "the right way." I guess it would be different if Pache, Waters, and Contreras were judged to be truly ready. Curious to see how the next few years turn out.
