Isn’t there a rule in roomie league that limits the number of throws over to first a pitcher can do. I think stealing is easier down there.

I thought I read something to that effect. If that's the rule, my guess is given today's result that Caleb Durbin hopes it's adopted throughout baseball.

Waddell played at 2B, SS, and 3B for Rome in addition to DHing a few games. My guess he goes to 3B or 2B (with Rijo moving to 3B). Could play some SS as well. Alexander is likely the odd man out.

    Any reports on his defense?

Is he a guy that can actually stay in the middle infield?

Athletic enough to do it. He's had a couple of brutal games at SS and he's played 2B and 3B in HS. I know he said he wants to play in the infield but not sure about his growth at this point..shouldn't be an issue as he's about 6'3 now. He has good actions and range so there's that. Let him get with Wash for a summer and I would say he can stay at SS.

He's definitely hit since he been in the system though.

If both he and Lugbauer could get more consistent contact, they may still have a chance. Clearly, the power is there. Jenista has really surprised me (in a bad way). When he was drafted, I read that there weren't that many questions about his being able to put the ball in play as much as there were concerns about moving away from aluminum to wood and what that might mean for this power numbers. I've read that one of his problems is that he's a "swing tinkerer" and that's never a good thing. Hope he finds something that works.

Thats great - The hit/batters eye/speed tools seem to be there. I love that combination as we all know power develops last.

It's amazing what a couple of levels can do to these guys. When he was in (low A) Rome he looked like a man among boys. I also wonder about coaching. Bobby Moore (if I remember the long time Rome hitting coach's name right) was in those guy's ears constantly and they seemed to really benefit from it.
    Go get him!

From what I've seen of Grissom I think he's better suited to be a 3B long-term, but as others have said he might be athletic enough to be passable at SS in a pinch. The bat is what gets me really excited. 10% walk rate and a 14% K rate for a 20 year old who effectively missed a season of development and is seeing A ball for the first time. The .360 BABIP might temper my excitement a little bit, but I agree with thethe- he seems to have all of the tools you want at this stage, and if the power bumps up a little bit from what seems to be gap power now, he has top 100 written all over him.

If Grissom continues on this path I think we would see him up for September of next year and then discussions on if we want him up after April 2023.

Really surprised with how he's moved. He was at the alternate site and didn't seem as fazed by the assignment that others seemed to. BA wrote a thought on it attributed to the farm director : 'Grissom'spent a good chunk of the summer at the alternate site. He similarly stood out as far as his maturity and his ability to compete against some of those arms who were pitching in the big leagues last season.

There's a lot of Perfect Game video of him if you wanna see his set up. Much the same as a pro with a little elbow tuck..minimal movement except a little bat tap on the shoulder. I really like this kid. Sept next year would be real aggressive but I think 2023 the gloves will be off.

It's interesting looking at Jenista's college stats and his stats from his first year as a pro (2018) and notice the remarkable difference. Jenista and Bohm were a killer 1-2 punch at Wichita State, but Jensita showed little power for his size (6-4, 220). His K-rates were low: College 1-13%/College 2-17%/College 3-16% and his BB-rates were solid College 1-15%/College 2-12%/College 3-19%. His HR percentages were low 2%/3%/3%.

That profile was largely maintained during his first year in pro ball (3 levels-R/A/A+) with a 16% K-rate, 9% BB-rate, and 2% HR percentage. Things flipped a bit in 2019 at A+ and AA with a 30% K-rate and an 11% BB-rate with the HR percentage staying at 2%. This year the K-rate has jumped again to 37%, but the BB-rate is also improved at 16% and the HR percentage is at 5%. I would have to see spray charts to determine whether his batted ball profile has changed in his three minor league seasons.

I've never seen him play, but reports when he was drafted indicated he was big and athletic and had power potential. Maybe the instructional staff wants him to turn on the ball more and increase his launch angle to realize that power potential, which could explain the spike in K-rate and the increased HR percentage. In normal times, his 40-man decision would be this coming off-season, but I can't remember if the pandemic gives team an extra year to make decisions on non-roster players.
