The Chris Rock/Will Smith incident last night reminded me of something I saw in my hometown about 25 years ago. A fancy car with a northern license plate cut off a primer gray pickup at one of the busier intersections in my little town, just as I was walking to my vehicle after leaving work. The car turned into my store parking lot and parked. Out of nowhere the truck flew in and parked behind the car, blocking it in. Driver of the truck got out, opened the door of the driver of the car, threw a couple of punches, and said 'You don't do that here.' Then he drove away. He was correct that the type of behavior displayed by the tourist was rarely seen there. I suspect the lesson made the aggressive driver more considerate of others. I support Mr. Smith's decision to deter future disrespect of his wife. I can't agree with stopping at one blow, but I'll take it.

WHat you just described is aggravated assault and battery and is a crime.

Would you be applauding it if the man in the car had a gun and shot the assailant? It would be standing his ground. Now we have someone dead because they couldn't control their road rage.

An anecdotal story this reminds me of was a long time ago (I think I was 20 or so) my cousin and I were in my car waiting to get out of a parking spot from some restaurant with a drive thru, I cannot tell you which one it was. We had just seen a movie and we were grabbing something nearby, I want to say it was BK but it may have been chick-fil-a. Anyway I have my reverse on so when the drivethru finally moves the people will know I'm trying to go and will let me out. Simple standard ettiquitte. Well this one person takes great offense, keeps laying on his horn, so on so forth, finally I see him get out of his car. I put my car in park incase this person has a real dumb problem. He comes up to my window screaming a bunch of ****, I simply tell him he and his car are in no danger, I have 2 eyes that work well and backup sensors I know there's more than 2 or 3 feet between me and his car. He then proceeds to insult my cousin and I and I open the door and get out the car. I think because of my car he thought I was an old person at first (big boy sedan) then when he saw I wasn't he must have thought I was some spoiled kid or something. When I got out and he saw I was 8 inches taller than him and probably had 100 pounds on him (this era in my life I was going to the gym 4 days a week and was on the way to 400+ deadlifts) and told him loudly get back in the car your holding the up drivethru and making me wait he ran away sputtering something. It wasn't the ideal way to handle it. If he had a gun he could have shot me, but I knew it was just some unhinged man who if I wasn't a 19/20 something who is already much taller than average and was lifting regularly he may have attempted assaulting me.

That being said, there's no way Chris ROck comes out of this looking bad. He gets stand up material for a year. He took an unprotected slap and the other person cried not him. I think if the producers weren't screaming in Rock's ear he would have gone off. He could have laid into them for sure. The simple one would have been "I guess it would have been better if one of my kids friends ****ed your wife than me make a joke"

As I said in the other thread, he attacked one of the nicer standups in comedy. If he went up and slapped Dave CHappelle, even if Chappelle didn't let the inner demon out, he wouldn't have stopped berating Smith. Hell Tiffany Haddish would have scratched his face until he was bleeding everywhere.

I think it's interesting that you can talk about some personal stuff on stage (Regina Hall made a joke about their open marriage, Jada pointed and winked) But not others

I read it more as a parable about how certain boyz from the South are still working through some issues from the War of Northern Aggression that have been passed down over the generations like family heirlooms.
