That Morton deal for $20 million looks like a steal right now, especially in light of the Syndergaard deal.

I think we should try to sign Aaron Loup last year make 3 millions and if he don’t sign with us maybe the Mets need to throw extra money to get him.
It would be backtracking, but I think it would be a great idea for Alex to kick the tires on old pal Alex Wood to find out if he'd take a 2 year/$20 million deal with an option to come back home.
If he slotted in behind Anderson and Wright wins the 5th SP job during camp, you could use both Ynoa and Touki out of the pen as multi-inning Opener/two pitch guys to make it just flat nasty - and if you added Melancon it would fit squarely in the conversation of best pen in the game. You'd still have Strider, Muller, Elder, Davidson, and Tarnok in Gwinnett.
Even if Freeman stays for $27 million AAV, adding Wood at $10 million, Melancon at $8 million, bringing back Rosario or Pederson for $8 million, and bringing back Adrianza for $1.5 million would put payroll in the $171 million range and would preserve an incredible amount of depth with all those arms, Langeliers, Contreras, Waters, and Shewmake at Gwinnett with Harris and Cusick probably joining them there by midseason. That would mean you play Pache and Heredia in CF, but if they're hitting 9th and Acuna's back I think I'd rather roll the dice and keep Freddie - even if it means you don't have any money left for the deadline - because the Pitching depth would be ridiculous and there's a legitimate chance that Waters, Shewmake, and even Harris could be ready to make the jump by then. If Rosario/Pederson and Duvall are on one year deals, there's a good chance you could unload them if you have to add Ozuna's money in the second half.
Much higher payroll than we're used to (or most expected), but considering the names we've been connected to - and the Pina addition - combined with Alex' public proclamation that it's going up, the glass half-full guy in me makes me want to believe it might just go that high. If the Freeman decision has been laid out as a "you have to bring the face of the franchise back" deal, maybe Liberty looks at covering Freddie's deal as a necessary cost.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
I think AA was spot on with the 5/135 deal. I don’t feel comfortable with any more years or AAV. Go ahead and start building the OF.

I bet we don’t re-sign him.

William Contreras posted “ Mi gente la semana que viene comenzamos con cardenales” on his Instagram story. Google translate translates that to “ My people next week we start with cardinals.”
He also added the Arizona Cardinals mascot in it, maybe an accident there. Did he just announce that he was traded to St Louis?! Or is he a huge Seahawks fan excited for their game against Arizona Sunday? Or am I an idiot and missing something here?
Edit: false alarm, just a winter ball announcement - https://twitter.com/laprensalara/status/1461136493611728897?s=21

False alarm: he’s playing winter ball. Back to your regularly scheduled offseason programming.

I would love for Contreras to become an adequate defensive catcher.
I still think we could see a combo of Buxton and Bellinger. 2 players a year from FA who could catch fire and bring back a pick, that would not cost much to acquire in prospect capital.
