The Angels overpay for everyone that’s why they don’t win. Syndergaard 21 millions is crazy. Next few years Anthony Rendon will make 38 millions a year.

Farhad Zaidi has a type. Very interesting how the Giants really gravitate to the middle class veteran types.

They still have 2 rotation spots left, and alot of money to spend. I think they keep Gausman, and add a top of the rotation type.

Alex Cobb is heavy on their radar as well.

This doesn't surprise me. I think they fear Ohtani bolting as a FA if they continue to suck no matter what they try to offer him. They have 2 more years to right the ship and they are going to throw a lot of money at it.

The Angels are just too volatile. They have so much upside but constantly overpay. That said, if they are going to overpay, it needs to be for the sure-thing players like Scherzer.

The Rays have signed Wander Franco to a 12-year, $223M deal. Honestly, great value for both sides.

Looking at that makes you realize even more the steal the Braves have on Acuna's contract. This buys out 6 years of Wander's free agency years (assuming nothing changes in the CBA) while Acuna's deal took out 4 years of free agency when accounting for the options.

    To wit:

Anything north of $100MM in guarantees will make Franco’s contract both a record for the Rays franchise and also for any Major League player with under a year of service time. Ronald Acuna Jr.‘s previous eight-year, $100MM contract is the largest ever signed by a player with less than one year of service, but it seems that Franco is poised to come close to doubling that record figure.

This deal was probably signed with the intent of trading away his surplus value in 6+ years from now when the Rays can no longer afford to pay him.

Yeah. The likelihood they move him like the Fish did with Stanton is pretty high I'd think. Except they will be smarter about it and make their team better in the long run.

Making it even more likely that they trade Kimbrel—either for pure salary-relief, or with a chunk of his contract paid down for a middling prospect.

I'd like to see Anthopoulos get involved, in the latter scenario.

Nobody is taking that salary. It would be awesome to see him come back home. That crowd on his first night back coming in for a save would be crazy.

Kimbrel at 16 mil? No thanks, and i'd imagine they'd want a decent return given what they gave up. Now, Sonny Gray is who i hope AA targets in a trade.

You guys having trouble reading? I clearly said I'd like to see Anthopoulos get involved "with a chunk of his contract paid down for a middling prospect". As in: Craig Kimbrel at one-year, $8m or less. Still a decent amount of elite upside in the arm, if the prospect cost is (as I said) middling.

But I'm all for using that cash on a viable starter instead. I don't think it'll be Gray, however, because his contract is too good, so he's going to cost a decent amount.
