I's crazy how one bad step cost Soroka two seasons. His setback, whatever it was, must have been worse the initial achilles injury, because I remember him pitching in ST last year.

I don’t think it’s necessary worse… just the second time. That’s going to to greatly increase the time table for return to be extra cautious. Tearing an Achilles is a serious injury… especially twice. I may be wrong but I don’t remember him actually pitching at all last Spring. That time table doesn’t seem to make sense.

He threw two innings in one of the last games of spring against the Red Sox in 2021. Got me excited for a hot second.

I’m no doctor, but he tore it while walking.

That can’t be a good omen for resuming a professional sports career.

I'm no athlete (or doctor) my any means, but from personal experience, ankle injuries can take a good while to completely recover from. And while you are recovering, one wrong shift in weight, even while walking, and you're tumbling over in pain. I can vouch for that.

I’m wondering if the bigger deal for the second tear was the complication he had before with his body rejecting the sutures after the first operation. That likely complicated the healing process. Hopefully they implored a new strategy for this one.

His foot was rejecting the stitches or the original graft. I can’t remember which. So basically it wasn’t healing properly.

We’d probably know if that was the case again here pretty soon

I don’t know. Seems like the Braves keep that kind of news tight lipped until it has to come out. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the suture rejection played a part in the first operation not healing properly, paving the way for an easy second tear.

Curious if that J-Ram extension will lessen the potential total for a Riley extension.

Crazy that a guy would take less money to stay in Cleveland rather than replacing Turner in LA for more money...guess he truly loved being an Indian/Guardian.

Albies agent would have jumped at $6M per year

5/124 isnt a bad payday by any means. Obviously he probably could have gotten more if he waited for free agency, but cant hate on anyone for securing money now while it's in front of you.

He is going to be 30 this year and not hit free agency until after he turns 32. So its not that bad of a deal.

He does run the risk of injury or bad production over the next 2 seasons. $124m is life changing money, especially factoring he is coming off a $36m contract. Look at Acuna, tore up his ACL last season. Appears to be rebounding very well, but he is much younger.

Braves start the season with a zips projection of 93 wins. Only 1 less than the Dodgers. AA and the Braves did a heck of a job building this team for another run.

Honestly might as well forget he exists. He is the new Mike Hampton. I kind of doubt he could come back and be the same pitcher after so much layoff from injury. If we ever see him again consider it a bonus.
