Verlander... really.. haven't we already had enough uptons here?!?!?
Man, that would be a sick rotation.. and to think if Wright makes a move and Maple Maddux gets healthy for the playoff run..

Folks have been mentioning Reynolds as an acquisition target, but I was reading some analysis at another site and they were wondering what the Twins will do with Byron Buxton. There would be immediate costs in terms of prospect value and Buxton is an FA after 2022 (and is no guarantee to stay on the field), but I would still check in on what it might take to land him. Twins are desperate for pitching.

Just spitballing here, but in the unlikely event they could afford the 6 years/$200 million - $35 million per year - it would be awfully easy to make the argument that that money would be better spent giving Verlander the same deal they gave Morton, Rizzo 2 years/$26 million, Melancon 1 year/$8 million, trading Pache/Langeliers or Contreras/Wright for Reynolds, using Duvall as your DH, and playing Waters and Heredia in LF with Lugbauer added to the bench to potentially DH when you want Duvall to play defense and Rodriguez DFAd to make room for Melancon.
If you're using Ben Clemens' projections, doing all that would bring payroll in at roughly $162.5 million without Ozuna, and the only commitments beyond 2024 would be Acuna and Albies. If Ozuna's added at midseason that would push payroll to around $170 million.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

If FF balks, you'd have to think Minnesota would be open to getting rid of Donaldson.

If Braves are in on Verlander and still want Freeman back, as well as bullpen help and outfield/DH, who the hell even knows what OD payroll is gonna be.

Belt to accept his QO, everyone else rejected them per Passan.

Verlander back to Houston.
Well that hope was short lived.
The exact names are impossible to predict, but the idea that a WS contender can be built without shackling the team to 6+ years of a 32 year old 1B is certainly valid.
In the end, that's what I expect AA to do. Remember when AA wouldn't even give Brantley 2 years? He's already stretched out to mid range 3 and 4 year FA deals, and it shouldn't be too hard to extrapolate from those deals just how bad it could be giving Freeman $180M+.
An offer for 5/135 already makes Freeman the highest paid 1B in the game, as well as the largest contract in Braves history. AA has already extended further than a mid-market team should with that offer, and if that's not enough I don't think it's wise to stretch further.
