Yeah no thanks. Give me a proven guy out there instead. No need to guess on somebody during our WS contention window.
Braves are likely going to be linked to EVERY free-agent OFer, regardless of name. Just lost 3 of them to free-agency, Acuna may or may not be ready prior to midseason, the in-house options have glaring holes or questions, payroll reportedly going up with extra revenues to spend.
Not saying someone with "sources" hasn't heard things, but someone like Suzuki wouldn't seem to make a lot of sense for a team that's going to have to pretty significantly overpay if they want to keep the face of the franchise. You're talking about "blowing" the posting fee on a guy who's seen less MLB-level pitching than Pache has, the same amount of MLB-level pitching as Waters has, doesn't appear to be able to handle an up the middle position defensively, hits from the wrong side since you need LH hitters, AND you're going to have to give him 4-5 years guaranteed?
Just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.
If he was a CFer and hit left-handed - or maybe even if you plan to finally move Acuna down in the order when he's ready and planned to hit Suzuki at the top of the lineup if you think his high OBP will translate - he'd sorta fit, but I can't recall seeing a single word written anywhere that hints that they don't intend to return Acuna to the leadoff spot as soon as possible.

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
Like the vast majority of AA deals, we're likely interested on a high AAV short term deal. And I would be ok with that gamble..

Which fits with the "Braves have WS money to spend right now" narrative we've been discussing.
MLBTR compares him to Tsutsugo with a better hit tool, or to a younger Avisail Garcia with upside for more.

FG (namely Eric Longenhagen, the prospect expert) claims he has some trouble with velocity in, and since the average FA in Japan is about 4 mph slower than MLB, that may be exploited.
ZiPs has him projected at .281/.350/.469 and 2.2 fWAR.

I personally don't see the point in giving a player like that 4-5 years when very similar players are available for lesser deals.
However, if they see room for upside, then maybe it's a good idea. I no longer try to project players without MLB statcast data.

I think if we sign Suzuki is because Acuña is not going to be ready for opening day. Suzuki will be our right field. If they add DH to the National League Acuña will be our DH.
The #Braves today acquired RHP Jay Jackson from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for cash considerations and a player to named later or cash considerations. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the club designated RHP Yoan López for assignment.

I doubt we have the payroll to add a major free agent to cover 0-60 days of time without Acuna. Especially when a work stoppage and a move back of opening day is likely.
Suzuki is a top 20 FA by most.
I think they ideally want a LF, CF and DH to go along with FF, a starter and a RH high leverage reliever. Doubt they can afford all of that even. I hope a guy like Wright or Touki could be that Relief option.
If Acuna is out for 0-60 days I think they'll use Pache or an Almonte type. Guys on the 40 man already.
If the get Suzuki it will be because they think he's a multiyear starter in an OF spot.
This.
Although if Someone like Suzuki or Marte is signed and leads off, we may finally see Ronald moved down - at least until the doctors declare him 100% and he starts pestering Snitker.
Best thing about Jackson is twofold - A.) has an option left so he can ride the shuttle, and B.) has tasted some major league success.

What about Javy Baez? He can play outfield and if somebody got hurt he could play SS, 3b, or 2b too. He’s probably 3rd or 4th on the FA SS market but he’s more valuable bc of his versatility.
Aaron Loup finish with a great pay day.
That addendum to all Braves news still isn't getting old.Command issues notwithstanding, Jackson makes for a solid, low-cost pickup for the reigning World Series champs.
"For all his tattooings he was on the whole a clean, comely looking cannibal."
He was very good last year, but it’s funny how the bad teams always end up paying the guys that the smart teams sign as minor league free agents. Ironically in this case, it’s the Mets losing Loup as they are traditionally the team that over pays the middle relief guy.
