Post CrimsonCowboy's 2014 NFL Mock Draft

Those of you who were on the old site know that I did a NFL mock draft. So, why not do it over here too? These mocks are based on the prospect rankings from CBS Sports/NFL Draft Scout. Why do you think Tajh Boyd will be a fifth rounder? Behind mettenberger and McCarron?

The Jags aren't letting Clowney get past them, no matter what QB is available. Also, don't see the Titans taking a DE with the 1st pick. If Mosely is there, I have faith we'll be taking him. And probably go Tiny Richardson round 2 if he's there since we need a LT in bad way.

Odds are the Rams take Clowney if they can't trade out as FIsher is usually a BPA type of guy. BUt to me the Jags have to take a QB. Even if Bortles or Carr or whoever bust out them and the Browns must take a QB because their teams QB play has been epically bad for a long time. And it's why they consistently pick in the top 10. If they don't their fans have the right to leave them.

That's how the rankings have him at this time. Every mock I've seen has had him around that area. He's going to have a big chance to improve that next week. He's the highest profile QB participating in the Senior Bowl. A good week will do him wonders.

The Jags aren't letting Clowney get past them, no matter what QB is available.

Don't know about that. Jacksonville needs a franchise QB in the worst way.

Also, don't see the Titans taking a DE with the 1st pick. If Mosely is there, I have faith we'll be taking him.

Good chance the Titans do take Mosley. I almost put him there.

Im surprised you have Clinton-Dix so low. I'd like him in the 1st for the boys.

His ranking was lower than I thought it would be. Part of that is perhaps because he did have knee surgery after the Auburn game. I think he will be going back up. After watching him at Alabama, he's going to be a good one.

    @CC, what no TE???

If Jerry drafts a TE anywhere in the draft, he needs to be put in a straight jacket.

I like Beckham at 30 for the 49ers. We have a glaring need to get a receiver who can stretch the field and Beckham can do just that. He also has value as a return man. I also like the Bucannon pick at 56. Why a DT instead of a CB at 61 though?

True, but you could/should have said that last year too and we all know what happened then. v

From what I have read and what my buddy the jags fan says, the Jags aren't crazy about any of the 1st round QB's except Bridgewater (cause he's from that area). They are in love with Clowney, however. Yes they need a QB in the worst way. But from what I see, unless Bridgwater is there, they don't want to make a mistake again with an early pick on a QB.

That was a different staff. Of course I don' thin the odds are that Clowney will be there since I think the Rams will take him as the BPA or trade out to a team who wants him or the Texans take him and they trade out to a team who wants Bridgewater. I'll be shocked if the Rams stay at 2.

I don't think Oakland uses the 5 on Carr, maybe if Manziel or Bortles falls to them they may consider it but I don't think they'll take a QB.

That said, I think the Lions take a WR, Marquis Lee being probably the leading candidate.

I hate having the 10th pick… Only Watkins is really deserving, but Lee, Gilbert, or Denard won't make it to round 2.

I am curious why you have the saints taking a guard in the first round.

Based on my draft board, Richardson would fill a need on the O-Line while getting a defensive player that the Saints need was going to be a reach. New Orleans will have to do something about the O-Line, because Brees got more pressure than I ever saw him get with the Saints. At some point in the first three rounds, O-Line has to be addressed.

Why a DT instead of a CB at 61 though?

Best player available at that time for the 49ers. I had a tough time picking that one, I must admit.

True, but you could/should have said that last year too and we all know what happened then

    Very valid point

Any chance Watkins falls to Det at 10?

    Very much doubt it

I can see Oakland taking a QB

    They absolutely could.

Keep in mind, this is going to change a lot between now and draft time. By the time it's all said and done, this will be a lot different. There will be guys eventually drafted in the first round that may not be in the top 100 prospects right now. The changes will start next week for the Senior Bowl.

No reason for the Bears not to focus on defense with this draft - would love to see them trade up to get Clowney, but they don't have the multiple picks to do so and I'm always leery about dealing future picks (look at the Redskins this year)

What are your thoughts on the draft being held in May? I don't like it because the tradition at the end of April was something I always looked forward to.
