Ian needs to get out of the first. It's by far his worst inning.

It's funny how the game has changed. 8.7 K/9 is just considered solid now. But that's how it is.

Does feel like a big first inning for Ian. Threw that one right down the middle to Adames after missing spots a couple times earlier in the at bat. Not giving me a ton of confidence.

Heh, yeah. The thought occurred to me. Smoltz had a career strikeout rate of 8.0 per nine, and that includes his time as a closer.

That hit from Adames seriously went barely between our defenders. lmao.

That said, Ian is so lucky it was only a single... middle-middle FB.

Man the 2018 and 2019 NL MVP's have really fallen off in what are supposed to be their prime years.

I feel like Smoltz would have feasted in todays game with his splitter.

Ian may have been a little too amped and left a few changes up. The last one down and in to Garcia was pure filth though.

Hopefully he settles in and dominates now.

Just need 4 more innings like that Ian.

Snit better take him out third time through.

Ian aint Morton/Fried and even then its a questionable move.

His FB command is off but he got it done with his secondary pitches. Get the FB right and he's going to shove.

Speaking of Smoltz again just because he was such a badass.

Imagine getting hurt in your mid 30's and having to convert to a closer when you were on a path to the HOF. Being an elite world-class closer. Then saying **** that and become a starter again at age 38 and go on to have 3 more 5 WAR seasons as a starter.

Ian's curve looked good. Fastball command wasn't there and change was up. If he can find a feel after a scoreless first could be a really good one.

So hard to say he was better than Maddux (not total career) but you could make an argument.
