He saw everyone else including us lack depth when it came down to the playoffs. Felt exposed by the TDA injury.

Plus this guy could be a good sub to actually throw a runner out.

Tells us something about how the org views Contreras if you ask me.

She’s could get another half season in AAA.

I dont know if I would go that far. Contreras may be too good to be a backup at this point but not good enough to start full time. Young.

I think this means the Braves view Contreras as a trade chip more than they view him as not a major leaguer. I expect he'll be gone in a trade before ST.

This is my take. Shea is the future and Contreras can help fill a need now via trade.

Pina was one of the top available FA catchers and if he puts up 1 WAR over his time here he’ll be worth the money.

This. Contreras showed he has work to do while flashing at times. With Shea around though, this is probably the time to trade not just WC, but the AAAA brigade too.

I think Pina is going to catch at least 70 games next year. He rated 14th highest in catcher framing on baseball savant. Guys is a legit catcher and will help the young pitchers grow next year.

TDA when healthy is fine for a DH if you ask me. Important to keep him fresh for our inevitable title repeat.

Contreras moving to first-base after the inevitable Freeman departure confirmed.

Is t being able to catch the ball sort of important at first.

I hope this is a good sign for the payroll and not a Smyly signing.

This is a solid deal on its own. In a world of limited payroll this is a lot of money to pay for a guy that you hope will not play much.

I assume Contreras is available in a trade. That said, some loved his bat and thought he could hit outside of being a catcher. If so, maybe he can still be on the team. Could be a bench bat, catch and maybe back up at another position. I'm in the camp of he will hit well for a catcher but not hit well enough for another position. In the world of the DH, maybe you want 3 catchers so Snit will actually pinch hit for his catcher if needed.

I think the idea is to keep TDA fresh.

I could see them splitting 50/50 up until August/September.

.318 xwOBA in limited action is roughly MLB average.

LD/FB EV of 95.9 was only bettered by Acuna and Joc as a Brave.

10.3% walk rate as a 23 year old rookie.

There are definitely reasons to be optimistic about Contreras’ bat.

Didn’t realize he had a 4 million option for 2024 with no buyout. That’s becoming a signature AA move.
