    Braves sign Kirby Yates.

Right-handed reliever Kirby Yates and the Atlanta Braves are in agreement on a two-year, $8.25 million contract that includes a third-year club option for $5.75 million with a $1.25 million buyout, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. Per Passan.

    Smith
    Yates
    Jackson
    Nutsak
    Minter

    Pretty nasty backend.

Wow I was hoping we would be after Yates but didn’t think we would be. Bullpen is done for the offseason now

Only 1 million this year. His "big money" kicks in after Will Smith is off the books.

This deal was done so he could contribute full time in 2023. Anything he contributes in 2022 is icing on the cake.

He had TJ in March of this year so they are saying a mid season debut is very possible. If we save him till closer to the playoffs the bullpen is lock down nasty.

It's bold of you to assume we will be in the playoff hunt with what the Mets have done

The third year club option is the big win here.

If this was just a 2 year guarantee, I would have been skeptical throwing 8 million at a pitcher who is 2 surgeries removed from his last full season. But with a cheap club option, this has the potential to be a real steal if he's close to his pre-injury performance.

Opening Day is April provided MLB lets them play this year, that's a year+. But safe bet is probably May or June as UNC said though.

I’m sorry. I just get excited sometimes and can’t control myself. I forgot about the Mets winning those offseason headlines.

You also have to consider he likely won't be allowed to pitch back-to-back and he will definitely have rust and will need to rebuild arm strength. These guys almost never contribute the first year back from TJ.

A steal for Yates if he pitches even just one whole season during his deal.

FG had Yates at $8M for 1 year.

Getting him for essentially free in 2022, and then either 1/7 or 2/12 after that is a pretty good deal.

You cannot be mad at this move. Who knows if it’ll work out but it’s the right move every time.

Pre-injury Yates plus last year's pen would be the best pen in baseball, easily, but you never know with relievers.

    He’ll be 36 then.

He’ll be 35 this year, coming off two season-ending injuries. I think if we get anything resembling his previous form it will be icing on the cake.

I'm sure we're hoping for a strong 2nd half this season
